I don't get the "speed" effect from it that most describe. I don't get a rush or a high. It is my understanding that among those who really need it, it affects the chemistry of the brain differently than among those who don't. I'm not a neurologist, I just know that it works for me.

Was there a speed effect when you first started taking it? I've always figured this was due to developing a tolerance but I haven't claimed to be a doctor in months.

Born in 61',so,adhd kids were called other names then and no pills were taken to my knowledge.

idk a whole lot about it.

I have taken it 2x.Strong Amphetamine.

I have a Niece and her Husband, out of College, working and raising a son.And taking 1/2 of an Adderall Tab every morning before work.

I don't judge.Lord knows I've got my vices.

I figured it gave them an edge that is probably lacking when they don't take it.

I was prescribed Adderall, and took it for a few years. It helped my focus, but the side effects were just too much. It seemed to start causing depression, thinning hair, muscle wasting, and anxiety/quick anger. Also, although it helps focus, it got to where I would be hyper focused on the wrong things.

These days, I take a supplement called NeuroPeak and make sure I get enough sleep and exercise. My blood pressure has dropped and depression has subsided. Also, the thinning hair had stopped.

Like I said, y'all are all just mentally weak.. I went through this

Was prescribed addy cause I was having trouble focusing.. hated the side effects of it so I decided to ween myself off and wound up in the same position as I was pre-prescription

Started reading books and seeking self help knowledge about controlling my own thoughts and focusing my attention on the task at hand, and now I fully function without the use of prescription meds... was it easy? frick no. Did I succeed the first time? NO, but I kept working at it and kept trying to better myself as an individual and did it without the help of pills

I'm just trying to wrap my head around this... you need a pill to help you focus?

Sounds like you need a large dose of regimented discipline instead

Nothing like an adult stating they need Adderall to "make it through the day/ do my job" on the H&P.

Lack of coping skills at its finest...

Basically, that's what I'm saying

And I know that people feel like they need it, and yes I agree with them that they do need help, but it does not have to be in the form of a pill. That's just the easy way out.. I guess that's just our way of life now - kind of like the people who buy a product because it's the 'quick and easy' way to lose weight.. no, it's not quick and easy nor should it be.. if you want to better yourself, work for it. Stop trying to take the easy way out unless you want to be dependent on drugs the rest of your life

Not sure why everyone thinks I'm such a 'moron' because of my stance on this

That doesn't mean you needed it. In fact, it sounds like quite the opposite.

Vyvanse has been a god send for me. I'm so productive with it my wife doesn't even want me to take it on the weekends because I'm so productive on it I won't sit down. There's no high for me or euphoria just clarity and quietness in my head to where I focus on the task at hand.

Am I the only one who gets a high and can be more productive from adderall/vyvanse?

See, because I actually need it, I don't understand the high some people get from it. Adderall is a downer for me, it puts my mood on the floor, I almost get depressed when I'm on it.

Exactly! My friends all take it before they go to the bar, and I refuse. It makes me zombie-esque and really focused because I need it to concentrate. I don't get how it affects people who don't actually need it. I take it 5 days a week for work. I'm 25. I have been taking it since 7th grade. I should be working, but somehow I became focused on this thread lol.

ETA - what I'm saying is that you do not need pills to control how your mind works. You control what you think about, you control your thoughts and your actions. Having trouble focusing? Try harder. If that doesn't work, more persistence. Prescriptions shouldn't be necessary for adults to sit down and do the work that they're supposed to do

When I wrote my Master's Thesis, I got to my office at 8 am and opened up a word document. I couldn't get a word on the page until midnight.

Once I got tired enough that my impulsiveness no longer ruled me, I was able to crank out a good chunk of it as I stayed up all night.

It took me several very long nights just like that, but I eventually did it.

It's incredibly inefficient to operate that way. This idea of trying harder is ridiculous. When I started working I began developing anxiety and blood pressure issues from not being able to focus.

My brain kept wanting to check and recheck and recheck the headlines on Google News. I wasn't even reading the articles. Then I would constantly refresh my email.

Eventually I started shaking at my desk because I knew I needed to start on a project, but couldn't control my impulses.

I'm not sure how much harder I was supposed to try. Eventually had a long talk with my boss, and I went to a psychiatrict specialist and a counselor.

While I still had some issues here and there I was much more effective at my job.

I'm not sure you understand how many random things quickly go through the head of a person with ADHD at all times. It is too much to even say

Anything my senses pick up, my brain says back to me, and then I'm off on another track until I get another form of input. Rinse and repeat every second of the day. I can have three or four trains of thought going on at any time. Adderall allows me to stay on one task and the small things just pass me by like they would for a normal person

When I'm not on meds, I can make it from Bernoulli to go kart racing in a couple of seconds without any external input

If by productive you mean flirt with EVERY chick at the bar or tailgate all while drinking a shot every 10 minutes and 37 beers an hour, then NO you're not the only one.

I want to hear more stories as to how it make you feel when you're on it and makes you more productive. I suffer from chronic laziness and may need a boost

Lazy parenting, and lazy doctors. Our attention span, as a nation, rivals that of a mouse.

You are late to the party. Parents have been jacking their kids up with this stuff the last 20 years. Its due to piss poor parenting. Some kids might need it but a good smack upside the head would certainly help as well.

Somebody posted a perfect .gif yesterday on this thought in the most over prescribed thread.

Most people take too much. You shouldn't feel the effects if you're on the correct dosage. I'm 5'11 180 with a fast metabolism, and I only take 10mg if I need it for 4-5hrs, and 20 XR if I need it for longer
