Production Value
They are getting the film they want. Hacking the snake with a cane knife on camera probably doesnt move the viewer needle the right way very far. No reason to do that on camera.
And, they probably dont kill the snakes. Less snakes = less production value.
People making snake catching shows want the Everglades overrun with 50 foot man eating pythons. Preferably eat some innocent babies and dogs and stuff too. Wouldn't surprise me if they're planting them there by the thousands.

So instead of just cutting the snakes head off out there and being done with it, they are gonna spend extra money to gas the snake to death

People release pigs all the time all over the place so they can hunt them, despite them being a plague on the landscape.
Id honestly be shocked if people producing a show about catching invasive snakes aren't involved in releasing more of them in some capacity. The money is in having the problem, not in fixing it. Like I said, the producers would benefit massively from somebody's dog or kid getting eaten by one.

Youre right. Deer hunting should include a season where we wrastle them until they tap out and jump in the yeti...

Per regulation you have to hand catch it, and humanely kill it.
Which is what ? How do you humanely have to kill them?

Cause drama and controversy sells!

From the Python Challenge rules:
Many tools are available and legal to use to humanely kill pythons during the event. Regardless of the tools you choose, you must ensure both steps are completed to humanely kill the python:
Step 1: The application of the tool should immediately result in the python losing consciousness.
Step 2: Immediately and substantially destroy the python’s brain by manually “pithing” which prevents the python from regaining consciousness.
I think you might be able to use a gun sometimes, but only in places where it’s normally legal to fire a gun.

Why can't they hunt them with drones?
Posted on 7/20/25 at 3:29 am to BatonProv
PETA would say it's cruelty to animals if they just shot them!

From the second pos see below…
It’s a bit of hypocrisy. They can use an “air gun” but not a gunpowder fueled projectile???
Hunters must follow a two-step process: rendering the snake unconscious (e.g., with a captive bolt or air gun to the head) and then destroying the brain by pithing (inserting a rod to scramble the brain). Firearms are not allowed during the competition because there’s no established firearm season at the event locations, and shooting may not guarantee an immediate, humane kill.[](LINK /)

much like the kill area on the head of an alligator, the target area is incredibly small.

They don’t have to do that. Pythons can lay up to 100 eggs per clutch. 16,000 Burmese pythons have been removed from South Florida since 2000. They breed like rabbits there. It’s an ideal environment for giant predatory snakes.

Because Florida wildlife laws are written by pussies

Yeah, they're definitely not doing that. But after a couple days of filming and coming up empty , I'm sure they drop a snake that they have caught and be like OK over there.
I'm a little skeptical about a guy sees a moving bush from 200 feet away and it's like they're there next thing you know they're on top of the snake

This is all done on WMA’s for the most part, I don’t think there’s a single state in the Union that allows you to discharge a firearm on WMA’s out of a normal hunting season.
