Louisiana's political situation is like that of the -stan countries. It should be renamed Louisianastan.

This.

I've seen this played out in real life right in front of me several times and each time it reminds me of a dictatorship. It gives me the feel of some type of french parochialism .

The culture of south louisiana is adverse to outsiders.

OTOH many complain of the weather here . It gets hot as hell in Phoenix and San Antonio too.
Last time I was in Laramie it seemed that there was a liquor store just about on every block.

There are two reasons:
1. The oil curse. Governments with lots of cash from resources are usually corrupt.
2. The ethnic makeup: Louisiana is, disproportionate to other states, made up of southern Europeans and Africans, none of which have shown the ability to govern themselves anywhere in the world.

Mississippi is the same way as Louisiana.

Primary stats show MS at the bottom if rankings.

Delete the 33 Delta Counties and we go up 10-15 spots in State Rankings

The people in this area chose to be like that since 1940 they haven’t had the job

Poor, fat and stupid. Virtually every Louisiana citizen hits at least 2 of the 3.

Deporting illegal aliens is why the state looks like shite? Were they just about to fix everything?

Louisiana is basically a satellite of Texas and just provides labor for it

If someone tripled my salary to move back, I would have to think long and hard about it.

Everyone I know that has moved away (to one of the southern neighbors) will never go back.

Same here my quality of life is so much better in southern MS. Better schools, better demographics, lower insurance rates and slower pace of life with less people. The only thing I miss about LA is being close to extended family.

In the other southern states the suburbs are nice, clean, new, and have good public schools. Good places for young college grads to start a family

Suburb planning is a huge part of it - no doubt. If anything is remotely nice, it’ll be ruined by undesirables and politician greed.

North Louisiana has lost more of its industrial base, and it's declining rapidly as a result.

I can't think of a Baton Rouge area suburb that appears to be well thought out, clean, or organized. They are all just extensions of Baton Rouge.

Louisiana is a pro-gun anti-abortion blue state.
If it wasn’t for outdoor culture and Catholicism it would be indistinguishable from any other blue state.

Because the people in this state are more interested in maintaining the status quo than improving.

We elect shitty politicians because they say the right things and sound the right way or look the right way. We refuse to do anything different because it’s different than the way we have always done it. We are completely happy being last because it’s easy.

Case in point. There are still people upset that LSU fired Ed Orgeron because he was “one of us.”
