I don't understand why anyone buys pre-squeezed orange juice. Oranges are readily availible as are electric juicers.... it would improve people's orange juice if they just fresh squeezed it every day...

I will never understand how they sell so much pre-ground coffee when buying whole beans is the same price per oz.

It would be like offering sirloin steak for the same price as a ribeye and people choosing the sirloin.

I have no idea why people just accept worse quality coffee when electric grinders are not expensive and would improve their coffee every day.

I have no idea why people buy coffee at all. Just plant some arabica coffee trees, harvest the beans, roast them, and then use them as needed.

I grind my beans, use a Chemex. Many people have said this is the best way to make coffee.

Yeah I'm with the OP here. It's not more expensive and I already have a grinder, so why wouldn't I take 10 extra seconds and have a better tasting coffee from it? It's noticeably better.

I’m not looking to add “grind the fricking coffee beans” plus associated cleanup to my morning routine for a barely noticeable taste improvement.

We live in 2023, the machine grinds the coffee for you now

Taste improvement is of course subjective but it's definitely noticeable to me, and at the same price point why not buy the superior version? You're also much less likely to have grinds of bugs included in your whole beans!

I don't want to grind coffee.

I grind coffee instead of buying preground coffee for the same reason we cook instead of heating up frozen meals.

Should be cheaper since you have extra work to do.

There are limits to my coffee making lengths, but using recently roasted beans, grinding fresh, using filtered water and using a good brewing mechanism are all low hanging fruit (especially the first 3+ using a good auto brewer).

If that is your concern you better start milling your own flour and corn mill, baw. The FDA has established limits for the amount of bugs and animal shite that can be in such products. This fact really irked Paul Harvey.

It's because they're mediocre and for some reason decide to wallow in it as if it's a virtue.

Getting a consistent grind particle distribution is paramount. It's hard to duplicate the proper diameter ground on the daily basis. This makes for inconsistent coffee taste.

I challenge you to do a blind taste test of the same bean, say Community Breakfast Blend, in whole bean and pre-ground forms.

I wonder if you could actually taste the difference?

I kinda bet you can’t.

Probably not since both would probably be rancid.

Now buying freshly roasted beans (I buy a new bag weekly) and grinding them vs grinding the same bag and then letting it sit for months on a shelf?

Yeah. I guarantee you I can taste a difference.

I buy shitty ground coffee and brew it in a 15 year old Mr. coffee drip just to piss off people like OP.

well sir you clearly are not buying the finest in local coffees

dude in my office regular pays $20-$30 a bag for his local coffee shop whole bean stuff

I am no coffee expert but I am betting on average whole bean coffee costs more than pre-ground

The ground and whole bean community bags literally sit next to each other with the same price

It's weird that bunch of baws that would carefully tend to a brisket for 14 hours for that perfect bark think taking 15 seconds to grind beans is a step too far.

Before Castro, you could buy real cuban cigars hand rolled on the thighs of real Cuban women (no dudes and no trans).

You can not be a fat hater, those ladies were not Orca fat but none were heroin thin either.

They may not have been this hot, but the method was accurate!

There are only 1 group of people that are pissed in this thread and isn't the group that grinds their beans.

Good for them. I don't seek out improvement in areas of my life to please others. I do it to please myself.

Doubtful, and if it does, this says more about you than it does about coffee, and not in a good way.

Ok, baw. Ya'll are overthinking "burnt bean water" (as a co-worker calls it) way too much.
