I moved out to False River last year, we love it.

It's peaceful, relaxing, Slower pace, laid back, no traffic, friendlier people with a lake view.

Lack of traffic is something that I miss. But commutes are not bad depending on which route you take or if you leave a little earlier or later than rush hour.

As for the girlfriend, that can go both ways. Some small town girls are promiscuous, ironically due not having much to do or trying to settle down very early.

On the flipside, in bigger cities you never know how many guys came before you. But I agree that at least the attention is not focused on just a handful of women.

I never ask how many before me, but in a small town you have a pretty good idea due to the gossip

You may not how many came before you in a big city but you will damn sure know every single one that came before you in a small town. Your cousin, brother, or best friend has probably hit it before you in a small town.

That's why you get one from somewhere else and bring her to the town.

We went out of town on Thursday when severe storms came through.

Our neighbor sent us pictures of our only shade tree that got blown down as well as garbage thrown about the yard, basketball goal knocked over, etc.

Got back this morning prepared to tackle the job and a local church had come by and cleaned everything up, chopped the tree and put it all at the road to be picked up.

That's why I love living in a small town.

Quiet.

Can see stars.

I can afford a house.

No traffic.

The same could happen in a larger town/city if you know your neighbors well and are active in your church fwiw.

Thing is, even if I had a yard and trees in a city, I've never stepped foot in this church.

No connection. They just did it because they love our small town and love to help people here.

They chopped up strangers trees and cleaned their yard all day in 95 degree heat just because they can help.

That's awesome.

I was the same way until I realized living in a place where you have people living above, below, and on all sides of your apartment is a shitty way to live. Give me 5 acres and a small house any day over that.

Plus people in the city can be real assholes for no reason because they know they'll likely never see you again. Cant get away with that in a town the size of Hammond or smaller.

I'd move back to the suburbs of a decent sized city or a small town not far away in a heartbeat. Most of the convenience of a city with good schools and less crime. Not sure that I could convince my wife right now though. Somewhere like Franklin, TN or New Braunfels, TX.

Yep. Life is what you make it.
My wife dealt with a medical issue a while back. The friends rallied and spread the word to the church and the school parents. For three months I had someone knocking on my door dropping off food 6 days a week. Restaurants, home cooked, it didn't matter. And they fell all over themselves offering to take kids to school and pick them up and anything else we needed.

My small town family and friends where I grew up didn't do anything.

With all that said, I do want to retire in a small town. Preferably on a lake or in the mountains. If things don't work out, something like Fairhope Alabama or Bay St. Louis will do. I need some good restaurants, bars, and grocery stores within an easy drive.

Every winter when a large snowstorm comes through, our neighbor clears out our sidewalk because he has a snow plow and we don’t. It certainly happens in larger cities too.

Again...not having nice stuff within a few minutes drive of you would just suck.

Also, another thing is access to health care. I wouldn't want to live somewhere where I can't easily access any type of care I might need(or my family might need if I had a kid). This becomes even more crucial the older I get. Most small towns, if they even have a hospital, are just gonna be able to handle basics. Many may not even be a level 1 trauma center and you will have to airlifted into a larger city with one.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Um...that’s exactly what I’ve been saying. I’m pro-big cities. Keep up, nurse.

Silly I know you are

I'm just adding more reasons to be pro big city.

The healthcare one is huge imo.

I could never ever live in a small town. BR is too small as it is, but I'm stuck here for another couple years at least.

I enjoy my $6 Uber home and 3 grocery stores in practically walking distance. Denser urban living would be even better.
