dude, I'm married to a Japanese Geisha, I've had more sushi than Tojo, it's woefully overrated imo, sure, I like it every once in awhile, but more often than not, its higher calling is as bait, another food genre that has a good market here because people want to asociate it with having eclectic "taste," which is ironic because there's very little of that in most raw fish
ETA: disregard, was making a Shawshank reference

I'm sure this has been said in 8 pages, but I'm gonna say it again: if you don't like sushi, don't go to lunch with them.

You'll never guess what they sell at a steak house.
Nobody tell him! Just imagine the look on his face when he finds out!

used the forcing as hyperbole. Obviously nobody is holding a gun to my head.
So you're being dramatic to make a point that doesn't exist?

its her fricking birthday. don't go.
I love sushi, my problem is that I spend $50 and am hungry 30 minutes later.

Swing and a miss, hoss.
Fish house.
ETA: Man, you know what I've been craving? Some fried chicken. I might take a stroll over to the chicken house to pick some up later. Or I might splurge and go to the cheeseburger house.

Yeah, not a lot of fish houses in the desert. None where I lived in New Mexico, and very few where I lived in California. But to the point of the discussion, anyone who thinks raw fish, or any other raw meat being served at restaurants in the US is even remotely "common" is speaking out of emotion or preference, rather than anything resembling fact.
You could throw out all the McDonalds, Burger Kings, and Wendy's in the country, and it would still be easier to find a restaurant that served cooked meat than one which serves anything raw.

Maybe they call it a fish house in whatever bumfrick Arkansas town you're from, but I don't think it is commonly referred to as that here.

Drown it in soy sauce and it's delicious

For real. Every single girl I go out with, one of the first questions they ask is if I eat sushi.

What a stupid fricking argument. Yes, it is easier to find places that served cook meat because you're including Applebee's or Wendy's.
But guess what? Most steakhouses serve tartare or carpaccio. Both raw.
Ceviche, crudo, raw oysters, all extremely common in most modern american restaurants these days.

I don't eat it because it's trendy. It's way past the trendy phase. I eat it because a few things at our local sushi joint are simply fantastic. They have these squares of raw salmon drizzled in grape seed oil, chimichurri and micro greens. One of the best things Ive ever eaten.

The Atlantic Salmon appetizer as Sushi Yama is one of the best things I've ever eaten. And you've got to hang onto the sauce to dip the sushi in. Unbelievable.

I just read 9 pages of a thread about some prick who gets mad about an office birthday lunch.
God help me.

Why do crawfish lovers want everyone to try crawfish?
Because it's different and it's awesome
I hate sushi btw

Hey! We finally agree on something! If it is easier to find places that served cooked meat, then by definition that would be what is common. Say it with me now, if serving cooked meat is common, serving raw meat is....
Don't be so hard on yourself. People try to make stupid fricking arguments about stuff they like, that most people don't, all the time.

I like sushi, but I know what you mean. There are people who eat sushi who, when they come across someone who says they have never eaten it, they have this "I am so open minded and you are not, you should be more open to trying new things" attitude. Those people are probably the type who are not as "open-minded" as they think they are and since that's the one thing they have tried done that their lame arse wouldn't normally do.. they act like they are the most interesting person in the world.
