Why do some posters here insist on convincing others to be scared sh*tless of Nola?

From a statistical and data standpoint, it really really reminds of the BLM messaging strategy. BLM basically uses anecdotes. If they wait long enough inevitably a questionable police shooting will come along and they can say "ooh! When will this ever stop. This is reality." When in reality, there is never any statistical context. Just overly-excitable anecdotes.

A black person with a piss-poor understanding of the actual data and how statistics work seriously may worry that tomorrow is the day when they are shot and killed by a cop, when in reality the probability of a black person being shot and killed by a cop at some point during a calendar year is like 1-in-180,000. In any given day, it's like 1-in-67,000,000. If you only include "unarmed black people," the probability is even more astronomically low.

The posters on this board who beat the drum for staying away from New Orleans at all costs basically do the exact same thing as Black Lives Matter.. There are roughly 120,000 white people who live in New Orleans. Also, quick research says that New Orleans draws between 15 million and 20 million vistiors per year, and obviously a big majority of those are white.

Out of all of those white people crawling around New Orleans, only 12 were murdered in New Orleans in 2015. https://nolacrimenews.com/2016/06/14/the-demographics-of-murder-in-new-orleans/ Project that for the 2022 homicide numbers in New Orelans, and it comes out to about 25 or 30.

Incredibly similar messaging strategies.

It doesn’t appear like they’re trying to scare anyone about NOLA, just pointing out that it is a lot worse than it is portrayed by the mayors office, media, and those who live there.

As a white teenage girl you are statistically more likely to be killed by a cop in Brusly than a bullet in NOLA.

Need to get this thread to the tourism bureau. “New Orleans - you probably won’t be murdered.”

"only 12" and "it comes out to about 25 or 30" means about 1-2+ per month.

Yea, nothing to be afraid of.

It’s more dangerous than Mogadishu statistically. That’s why.

Your odds of getting shot in broad daylight in uptown are high but not horrendous.

But your odds of having SOMETHING happen to you are astronomical

This board goes crazy over negative New Orleans news. I don’t really know why that is, but they do. Unfortunately, they’ve had plenty ammo lately.

It’s ashame because there’s a lot of good, but it’s constantly overshadowed.

Your argument comparing it to BLM is nonsense. The stats actually show that New Orleans is one of the worst places in the country.

Not if you're white. Not even remotely similar. That was my point.

I know serval people that still live there and they tell me all the time how terrible it’s gotten. So that’s what I go off of. It’s pretty ignorant to say there isn’t a massive crime problem in Nola right now. Also the stats back it up.
