lol bullshite, talk about lying. Literally 25k steps is over 2 straight hours of walking at a steady pace When you hear people talk about how much walking is involved at Disney, it’s roughly 25k steps You are not getting that with yard work.
My wife and I walk every morning for about 55 minutes. It’s about 2.8 miles and roughly 6,200 steps for me and about 6,400 for her. I usually get 12,000-15,000 a day. Days I walk, do yard work and more around the house may get me close to 20,000. FWIW, I logged 4,704,433 steps in 2024.

I strive to get at least 10K steps everyday. I’m 65 and there are days when I exceed and those that I don’t make my goal. According to my Garmin Forerunner, I incorporate running, 4.1 today and 3.2 yesterday, and walking to get my steps. During football season, I normally get 25-30+K steps on a Saturday due to running in the morning and walking around campus on gameday.

I've literally never had anyone randomly let me know how many steps they take a day.
I averaged about 21k a day in 2024 and I’m doing better than that in 25.

I've gone over 30K on two occasions in March. 15-20K is average on a workday, helps that I walk to work.

So I’m not saying 25k or 30k are not possible, I’m saying takes a concerted effort to get there and paying attention.
People that do that are usually paying attention to diet too and yea if you have a huge yard, you may get to that number….but you aren’t doing it daily
Ain’t many people out there walking 10 plus miles on the daily

I got drunk Sunday and only took 99 steps. I told my friends I walked 3 miles.

A good carrot cake is the best. I eat myself sick every time.

The average height on here is around 6’4” - 6’6”, so we have fairly long strides. It is difficult for us to get 10k steps on an active day.
Let’s say we walk to the store and back, we may get 2k steps. If you made this same journey, it sounds like you would probably get around 8k or more steps.
Does this make you healthier because you are shorter than the average poster on here?

Since you asked...
I'm retired (63), 6'2 and 190 lbs. Last month I hit 18k steps / day, this month targeting 19k steps.
I live on 30 acres, my house, shop and barn are all 200 feet from each other. I do 1-2 hours walking on the trails around here everyday but the rest is working on various projects or out about town.
From today (Wed - gym, trails, projects, Home Depot):

Is step count exaggeration the new OT dick measuring contest?
OT is officially a bunch of crotchety old MFs now.
ETA not directed at you chrome daddy, just the thread in general.

I will happily support a ban. The fat admin going home and saying, “I don’t need to go for my casual 1 mile walk this afternoon” because she walked back and forth to the kitchen 3 times is inexcusable.
Also a 1 mile walk burns maybe 100 calories so keep shoving that 3000 calorie lunch down your throat.
Seems to me that you're being critical of the wrong behavior, but you seem to be aware of which behavior is the correct one of which to be critical.

I got a friend who brags he takes between 13-15k steps per day. He’s about 100 lbs overweight.

Dude I am old, I own it. I have afib and had a ministroke when I was 45 (didn't know I was in afib).
What I've witnessed is all these guy friends / family that hit the wall at 60 They start falling apart: arthritis, knee replacements, hip replacements, back surgery, shoulder surgery. All the abuse they put on their bodies is coming home to roost. Drinking and being overweight. I'm trying to avoid all this.
I was a runner for the better part of 30 years. And rode dirt bikes. Knees and ankles are just barely hanging on. Both my parents suffered from arthritis...I'm hoping pressing weights most days will push this off for me. So far so good. And I wake up in the AM and feel pretty good.

If you work in an office and manage to get 15,000 steps a day on a regular basis, you must be a steppin fool in non-work hours.
I’m talking STEPPING!
What device and apps do people like these days? I’m tired of this Apple Watch.
There are a lot of choices between Garmin and Fitbit. Any recs?

I had a vacation recently where got between 18K and 22K steps a day for 5 days. Morning walk on the beach each day of at least 1 hour and a pre-sunset walk of one 1 hour, and sometimes walks to the small town close during the day, and active pool time with family.
Ate a huge breakfast each day with drinks, snacking lunch and few drinks during the day, and a huge dinner with drinks at night, I didn't gain a pound over trip due to being so active, and also pretty fit in general.
That said I'm pretty sure if I went more than 2 weeks without lifting/3 days a week of workouts I would start to gain weight eating/drinking like that even with all those steps, but in the short-term getting that many steps/day was awesome.

My goal is 10K steps a day and strive for a minimum of 7K. The only time I have surpassed 30K was last September after hiking the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park, which was 15 miles out and back. And yes, I know those step trackers on smartwatches can be notoriously inaccurate, I've read some are off by as much as 25%.
