I wouldn't either if I lived in a 500 sq ft apartment that looks like a soviet housing block and has 1980s interior

That’s because those leaders haven’t had to work with the Indian teams. All they see is pay India 12 bucks and hour get work done 24/7. They then bitch and complain budgets are blown because us based teams have to do extra review and rework.

Eventually a client will be like wtf if a firm went to all India work when quality is in the shitter.

Working from home is working from home. Did so past midnight for past 3 nights. Lazy azz people can’t make sense of this I guess. Been doing it for over decade.

I leave early when I work at the office and late (most days more or less) when I work from home, just to show I’m not taking advantage.

I don't know a single person who's had a positive experience with India

Every situation is different. I work hybrid (2 in office; 3 wfh). My whole team has same schedule. Personally, I am happier working hybrid then 100% wfh. That get tiring after a while without a human interaction.

It is up to me as the manager to let my team know the expectations with wfh. If we are in integration testing with hardware, I expect your arse in the lab. If a team member is failing to meet standards, then we talk.

The anti-wfh crowd are either too rigid or in an industry not conducive to wfh (some industries absolutely are better with an in office environment).

I enjoy an office environment. I also enjoy the mentoring aspect of management, which sucks when people don't come in or work on the other side of the country.

Newsflash

Those same people also suck working from an office. They can just hide it better when in a physical office environment. When Karen from accounting was WFH she was wasting hours each day watching the crown on Netflix. When in the office she’s wasting the same amount of time online shopping and talking/bothering people in the cubicle.

While this is true, lower level positions are still needed in many companies.. and the only people taking them are exactly these people. As long as you need someone to do these more menial tasks that are mostly internal (not answering to clients), you're going to have this caliber of employee.

Sure you can fire shitty office employees and shitty at-home employees, but if you need the role filled, you're not finding Star A+ Employee clamoring for an entry level role.

These types will get bold and comfortable enough at home to go A WEEK without doing any work, in my experience. At least in the office, they manage to do the bare minimum since they're being monitored.

This website complains on one hand that middle management exists at all, but then when this conversation comes up and people mention employees getting lazy at home, suddenly we want middle management to exist and deal with it. Well, which is it?

(FWIW - We are a mostly remote company. We don't micromanage anyone. We have metrics for knowing when someone is screwing around, though. We know which employees have done great at home, and which couldn't handle it.)

Only people I see getting butt hurt on this topic are those working at home whose employers have told them to return to offices.

Are they envious that some people get to work from home while they have to physically go to work and flip burgers?

The notion that working from home automatically equals “you don’t do shite and have a worthless job” is quite laughable to me.
Usually a bunch of overweight middle aged/boomer guys that like to complain and cry if people are different than them in the slightest way. They're all over the OT and start threads all the time.

You may not believe this statement but many corporate leaders do believe it.

This was a thought in the 2000's but has really died down since. You should really do your research before you post. They're actually reshoring more customer service and IT jobs than they are manufacturing.

If your job is tethered to a computer, working from home is best for everyone.

Your employer gets production out your would-be commute time.

You’re available to do a little work at night.

Working a little late isn’t a big deal.

You don’t burn up a couple hours every day chatting with coworkers or attending pointless meetings.

I'd tend to agree with you, but then I saw what happened to my mom when she had to work from home.

She hated it. Went back to the office as soon as she could. Still doesn't like that other people work from home. It's surely not a jealousy thing as she was miserable working from home.

I have no idea what it is. It's not my business so I don't ask.

Why don’t these people just appreciate that they work in an Millennial/Gen X hellhole open office adult daycare. Go play on the Fun slide or chill in the cry room instead of hating on us WFH peepz.

Same here. I fought tooth and nail to return. I don't care what other people do though.

Doesn’t bother me but I did hear a tech billionaire make a good observation regarding working from home. Basically, once your company realizes you can do your job effectively, (for some), then the next step is to have that job done for a fraction of the price from India, the Philippines or some other 3rd world country

What are these jobs in India that can be outsourced so easily? Like the first thing that comes to mind is the large time zone gap. My job is B2B sales for hospitals so good luck dealing with that when it’s 6pm over there right now.

The only jobs that I can think of that can be outsourced to India went straight back to the office lol.
