We're they misled about their job outlook when they took the job?

You're not wrong, but why complain when you had to have known this was the case when you signed up?

They complain because parents are fricking toolbags. Everyone's kid these days "is on the spectrum" and needs special attention. But there's still just one teacher, so the parents get their assholes hurt. I had a cousin, may she rot in hell, who's kindergartener was in my son's class, and missed almost forty days of school last year. Not because she was sick, it was because her mom was too much of a frickup to bring her to school. This shite did not happen when I was growing up. It's not the teachers teaching this generation, it's the parents parenting the upcoming generation that's the problem teachers have.

Telling me not to be a crybaby, to switch jobs if I don't like it, but then complaining about your oil rig life??

Take your own advise much? or have poor life choices left you without many options?

Yeah teaching kids how to sounding words out such a challenging concept.

And even if it is that is the life you chose when you decided to be a teacher.

Do you see engineers complaining about doing calculations and project management?

Doctors don't complain about doing check ups.

Newsflash it is called work not fun. Life isn't about doing what makes you feel good all the time its about doing what have to do so you can feel good some of the time ie working in order to take vacations, buying things of leisure.

one, they arent allowed to teach how they would like to--gotta teach to get those standardized test scores.

two, all of you breeder types treat your offspring like they are special, princesses, can do no wrong --so imagine a classroom full of thay

three, parents. You think your kids can do no wrong and shelter them from failure and consequences.

four, everyone thinks their kid is a genius. some kids are destined for trades, manual labor, service jobs. teachers should be able to teach those kids accordingly

i could go on...

1. pay is not stellar

2. they have to put up with the usual mix of 140 IQ and moron students and try to teach both groups. that's stressful

3. if they are teaching 7th grade and up, their very lives may be in danger from one or two or more of the worst of them. its stressful.

4. the workload is heavy. that's stressful

if you take summer off, you don't get paid for it. Yes you can request your salary be averaged to take it into account. It makes a 42K job into a 34K job though if you don't teach summers.

5. the social requirements are as intense as being a preacher, without the forgiveness. that's stressful.

Teacher's complaining about pay are about as pathetic as McDonald's employees begging for $15/hr. "But the kids are horrible" "Their parents are worse" shite I would rather deal with a fricking kid and a parent being mad at me than the fricking plant manager breathing down your neck because a compressor is causing you days of missed production.

I was a public high school teacher for 25 years, retired now. I did complain some, but not about the stuff one usual thinks of. I complained about the stupid bureaucracy and endless red tape that actually inhibited me from doing my job.

Your salary is your salary regardless if you get 1 check, 24 checks, or 52 checks per year. The yearly amount does not change. Most people I know don't live paycheck to paycheck so the total amount they make is more important than the frequency of the payments.

Obviously, most or all of the responders here have never lived with a teacher. They do not work a 8 to 4 job. They have to grade papers and make lesson plans after they get home.

I did. She is my mom. She worked 180 days a year in class, had an off hour to hour and a half a day at school to grade papers, and I rarely saw her do work at home. She won plenty of teaching awards, and taught for 35 years

I'm not saying she had an easy job, but she didn't work the 20 hour days most of you are trying to convince us of

Professions most prone to burnout

quote:

4. Teacher According to THE Journal, teaching "has the highest burnout rate of any public service job," attributed at least in part to problems with working conditions and access to technology. THE Journal cites studies that indicate that the occurrence of burnout may be worse among the youngest teachers, with teachers under the age of 30 choosing to leave the profession at a rate 51 percent higher than those who are older.

Feel free to blame this on women, also. Did your profession make the list?

Cops do have the option of arresting these assholes. The deal is, that same "grown up" is typically an even bigger a-hole as a teenager. They know they have little to no consequences concerning school behavior.

So, teachers should shut up because they "chose" to do what they do, but you get a pass?
