SS contributions are pointless anyway. I'm never going to collect, and even if I did it wouldn't be enough.

What's "ignorant" about it?

Are kids ever actually held responsible for what they do?

The problem kids are going to think that being suspended is "cool" and are looking forward to joining their other hoodlum friends a the "special" school.

In spite of working "outside of education" for 30 years I will get zip for my SS that I have paid in. That's the gig so no use in crying about it.

I notice it is the same people bitching about teachers in every thread. Y'all must have had some piss poor teachers, or one who you just absolutely hated to generalize so much.
The biggest complained on my FB is a plant operator, always complaining about working nights and after that a CPA because it is tax season.

His insinuation that sending them to the principal will solve anything.

you take summer off, you don't get paid for it. Yes you can request your salary be averaged to take it into account. It makes a 42K job into a 34K job though if you don't teach summers.

This is either a joke or my new sig quote.

They don't just get time off and then go back to school right when it starts back up like students. Yeah, they have more time off, but they also have to go to teacher seminars, get ready for the next school year, etc-- And they are underpaid and under appreciated.

With that said, most teachers just go through the motions and don't actually do their job to educate their students.

No profession is perfect. But people having to make the decision between a job that pays well enough to be comfortable (especially when a lot of districts now want you to have your Masters or more) and teaching is why we have some shite teachers to begin with.

It's hard to believe that the govt will get rid of SS completely. After all, that is money they've taken from you over the course of your life.
Not saying impossible, I just think very unlikely. For me it's not 100% of my retirement plan. Like you it would hardly be enough to survive on, but I do have it factored into the equation.

As for La teachers and SS, maybe someone in the profession can enlighten us. I was under the impression the state doesn't take SS and other taxes out of your check that's why you can't collect SS. Now if while teaching you had a second job that you did pay into SS on your are eligible for those funds.
Do La teachers have SS, state and fed taxes held from their paycheck?
In FL we pay SS and Fed taxes each check, and again we collect SS when we retire.

I'm pretty sure LA teachers can now opt into a different retirement that does allow the contributions and future collection of SS.

I'm sure teachers sympathize with cops. and envy them...cops get to lay hands on them and do what teachers wish they could.

Or I'd chose another profession that doesn't deal with snot nose little kids all day. It's not like it is a secret when you go into teaching you will have to work with kids.
