Anyone that thinks teachers are actually off at 4, and don't do any work during the summer, is woefully ignorant of the work it takes to be a successful, effective educator.

Everyone should bitch about State testing, 10 days of testing for students.

Do they still get 18 weeks off from work each year?

That's a narrow minded view.

If you had to deal with the offspring of trashy people throughout the school year, and all the bureaucratic red tape, and know there was nothing you could do about it, you'd complain too.

teachers have a right, here's why.

How many of you shite talkers are posting on the internet at work? How many of you get to take smoke breaks? How many of you get only 10 minutes to eat your lunch? How many of you have to deal with ignorant parents who blame the teachers instead of themselves or their own children?

Teachers are forced to WORK - every minute they are at work. They are stuck in a box, with 20 little kids either not listening or asking dumb questions all day long. Teachers cannot answer their phones at school. Teachers do not get to surf and play on forums. They do not get to play facebook on their phones. They are actually "ON" the entire day. The typical worker spends half their time frickING OFF, not actually working.

Oh yeah, teachers basically have 3-4 hours of work at home every night, between lesson planning, homework and grading papers. But yeah, they do get those 10 weeks off for summer.

i would say the extreme vast majority of people complain about their job. Particularly those with salaries comparable to teachers...

Also kids fricking suck. Yes all of your kids are annoying and i don't want to hear stories or see pictures - neither do your friends in real life.

Do you actually know any children? Ever tried to herd 20+ of them for any period of time? They have every right to complain.

I'll give them no sympathy, as they chose the job, but they have plenty to complain about during the school year.

I've rarely hear teachers complain. Most of my friends complain more about their jobs than teachers I know. In fact I hear more people complain about teachers than teachers actually complaining.

Remember your parents teaching you to respect teachers and police? What a disservice that was. We had to learn the hard way how much bullshite that was.

Because it sucks.

Yeah, teachers get some time off. That's a perk. It's not 18 weeks off. More like 10. But it's still nice.

But the job is awful. You work from ~645-~430 and are typically blamed for society's problems. You're also given persistent shite for kids not being able to perform well on terribly-written standardized tests that do little to actually assess useful knowledge and skills.

Any ambitious person who has plans on achieving success in life would hate it. You cannot do anything to better your career. Your raises are already decided. The money is decent for a young person but pathetic for a middle aged person with a family. No matter how hard you work, you will never be given a promotion or a raise. You have no reason to be competitive in your work. Unless you have some kind of innate love for enriching the lives of children (that never fizzles out), you will find yourself feeling like you have little value in the world.

And as much as people try to say that teachers make a difference, they actually don't. They make very little difference in people's lives. It's miniscule and easily forgotten. There's simply nothing to hang your hat on as a teacher these days unless you get into coaching or sponsoring, which is a-whole-nother issue with being a teacher. Despite making $40k a year working 40-50 hour weeks doing a job that's exhausting, you're expected to find the passion to do more. Are you a male teacher? You better coach, or you will be fired or ostracized (if tenured).

So teachers complain. It's a shitty job with a few good perks that many other jobs can have once you become a long-time employee.

As a volunteer in public schools and having worked in various classrooms of different grade levels, I understand teachers complaining completely.

I had to stop volunteering in order to avoid going to jail.....
