Come retirement you get paid for life.

Right. Plus a summer job can get you 10-20k.

Med. Teacher salary here is around 70k. In some states it's much more. That's not being underpaid.

You can make that much here driving a tour bus, hiking guide or running fishing charters.

no you are trying to get us to sympathize with them

fact is we all know the shite you trying to explain and still don't care.

I bet a messican from home depot could teach a class with a lesson plan handed down from above. but a teacher will not go dig a ditch

In Louisiana there are some very good public schools, and there are some hell holes. As a 21 year veteran of public school teaching, I would advise anyone thinking of starting a career in public education to run away from that idea quickly.

Maybe because they want to teach, not babysit the bratty offspring of egomaniacal narcissists...

1st grade teacher from back in the day? I doubt she "taught" them much in the first grade.

I understand the grade papers part, but why do they have to constantly develop new lesson plans?
because the State Department Changes the freaking standards constantly. And Everyone knows how to fix it and don't bother asking us for our input.

My wife teaches and I have learned that coming to the aid of teachers in general is pointless because everyone has already made up their mind on the topic. With that being said, I have realized there is no job more scrutinized then being a teacher. I feel sorry for my wife most days. Everyone is quick to blame the teacher these days for their kids' shortfalls but never look in the mirror and blame themselves for lack of parenting. Teachers are no longer educators anymore but also parents, babysitters, psychiatrists and anything else they can be possibly blamed for.

Don't forget that teachers also don't get to collect any Social Security even if their spouses work their entire lives and contribute and pass away before they do. I'd sure as hell not be a teacher and my mother never recommended anyone be one either. She is no hypocrite.

That depends on the state

I'm not a teacher, but I can understand the complaints.

Telling me not to be a crybaby, to switch jobs if I don't like it, but then complaining about your oil rig life??

Take your own advise much? or have poor life choices left you without many options?

Everyone complains about different aspects of their job. Cops complain about cop shite. Truck drivers complain about truck driver shite. Lawyers, doctors, nurses, pilots, and on and on. They all complain about something that has to do with being in whatever profession they're in.

Why should teachers be any different?

Yeah, first grade is just where most reading skills are acquired and no one ever uses that.

100 times this! There is an elephant in the room that education policy makers, political leaders, and PC bullshitters refuse to acknowledge. They never will, because in the system they've created there is a readymade scapegoat always at their disposal to point the finger at.
