? I thought you can't get there till the Rapture? Which may be thousands of years from now. What; s the rush to hurry up and wait for a near eternity?
Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.””
??Luke? ?23?:?43? ?
As soon as we die, those of us who have repented of our sins and confessed with our mouth that Jesus Christ is lord and believe in our heart God rose him from the dead 3 days later, as soon as you die you will be in heaven. I believe what you are thinking of is after the rapture Jesus will come from heaven to meet all the believes and then we will get our new heavenly body.
“in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
??1 Corinthians? ?15?:?52?

If you're an atheist, this is all you have. Why not spend the most time you can existing while you exist?
If you're a theist, God is in charge of my life and gives me purpose everyday.
put another way, if Almighty God exists, then He has a plan for your life, and every day you live is a chance for you to act in accordance to His will
if there is no God, then this is your only chance at life, then you’re dead for the rest of eternity - why waste any moment not living it to the fullest

I'm a Christian, and a child of the one true God, but I'm also in reasonably good health for a near 65 year old.
While I look forward to one day walking the streets of Heaven, I'm also enjoying my retirement, and I love spending time with my 3 grandsons.
As others have already said, I'm on God's schedule. He will call me home when it is my time. But in the meantime, as long as I'm able to maintain this level of cognitive and physical abilities, this life ain't so bad. Maybe my perspective is skewed because this life is all I know; if I knew what Heaven would truly be like, I may be in more of a hurry to get there. But because I don't, and because I worked 50 years to reach this stage, and as I hope/intend to play a role in leading my grandsons to The Lord, I'm content with where I am.
This is probably not the answer you were seeking, but it is an honest one on my part.

I’ll be fine to pass at about 60. It’s all downhill from there“
I’m 66 and thought the same. I was wrong-really wrong

Why the struggle to stay alive on medications, painful cancer treatments, and sometimes on machines.
For the theist who believes in an afterlife, they don’t really believe in an afterlife, but simply hope it exists. There could be some afraid of possible divine punishment too.
quote:
If heaven is what I believe
But you don’t know, and certainly have no reason to believe, especially not any evidence, other than a desire for it to be true.
Also you might want to re-read John 3:13. It contradicts Paul going to heaven for his vision, and Enoch and Elijah being taken up there, but it is something to think about.
Try to find a Bible verse that says the dead actually go to heaven. Good luck.
Sure there’s plenty on being resurrected, but it says the dead in Christ will rise when Jesus returns to judge the living and the dead, and that they will live in a new earth and Jesus will be the ruler of earth and so they will be with Jesus. Paul explains that the dead will be “asleep” until the coming of the Lord when they will get new pneumatic bodies.
Whether you believe we are created or if we evolved naturally, humans and all other animals possess survival instinct. There is something in our brains that works to make us try to preserve ourselves.

Hate to break it to most of y’all, but this is as good as it’s going to get. No heaven or hell, just blackness like before you were born. So enjoy it while you still can.

My grandfather in a nursing home with dementia and a 5 year infected wound near his colostomy port might've said otherwise if he wasn't so out of his mind.
Drs, hospitals, nursing home all didn't mind him continuing on and keeping the paychecks coming in though.

God gave most of us a very strong desire to survive another day. And another. And another.
