They do it in my neighborhood too. Them walking/jogging in the street really doesn't bother me that much, unless it's dark and they are wearing black or dark clothing.

I am beginning to believe that there is an unwritten law that if you walk in the street after dark you have to wear black clothing.

Exactly how wide are you?

As far as walking (not jogging), it is usually a certain demographic I've noticed doing this.

This is a disproven myth. Runners still believe it though, putting themselves in danger for no reason.

What isn't disproven are the ups and downs of a sidewalk through driveways and roads

I can't remember seeing this around here. It's never occurred to me to run on the street when a sidewalk is available. Occasionally I'll have to go around a car or an obstruction, but runners here stick to the sidewalks where possible.

Not to mention less camber (I know some sidewalks can be worse than roads, but not here).

Because you frickers won’t stop blocking the sidewalk.

It’s more dangerous to weave on and off the sidewalk than to assert yourself in one spot.

Asphalt isn't as hard on joints as concrete

Absolutely correct about asphalt being softer. When I was young and fit, my knees could tell immediately when I switched from concrete to asphalt.

And a lot of my black neighbors like to walk in the street when it’s dark - and I mean exercise, not hood rat shite.

I get it’s cooler but they’re going to get run over.

It's also safer for them. When I was younger and living in the Lower 9th Ward I'd always walk in the middle of the streets----especially at night.

It gave me a few more seconds to react if someone came at me.

I typically run on the sidewalk, but when it's bad I run against traffic so I can move over when cars are coming. Something people overlook is that running on the sidewalk can make drivers blind to you crossing side streets. I've had close calls where cars aren't paying attention and blow through a crosswalk because they're paying attention to traffic instead of pedestrians. Running in the street can actually be safer because that's where people are looking (assuming they're not playing with their MF'ing phones, which is a whole other soapbox)

I run in the street only on low traffic residential streets. The middle of the road is the crown and has minimal slope. Running on the right or left is more sloped thus not good for the knees. I always get to the far side of the road whenever a car approaches (either front or back) well before they get close (if on coming move right, if approached from behind move over left. Sidewalks are also not sloped, but where I am they are often blocked by cars and you have to go around.

Bc they think that just bc cars aren’t supposed to hit them, they won’t.
