The example here is just a question

Everyone has some go to words or phrases they throw in or repeat in conversations.
If you’ve never seen a conversation you’ve had typed up, you should record yourself. You’ll be amazed.

I think it originated in California in the 80's in the "Valley Girl" language.
Sadly it did not die there.

Chris Burke of the SEC network does it all the time and it drives me crazy.

Nothing is as bad as the vertical uptick that some people do at the end of sentences that aren't questions.

It is a sure sign of a person who is so accustomed to speaking BS that they hope for some affirmation that they might have finally gotten something right... :)

not nearly as bad as the ones who start sentiences with "Like I said - blah blah - - - "
Worked with a guy once (really a good engineer) but drove me crazy with EVERY time he stated to say something he started with "Like I said" - usually came out as 'lighkahsed'
Those are self aggrandizing, self promoting statements. They are letting you know that they are smart because they said it first and they knew it before everybody else.
Another one that is irritating is ending a statement with the word no. Which now makes it a question.
ex. " The paint you applied to the wall will dry by
tommorow, no?

I personally hate when people say write instead of right when I talk to them. Use the correct word idiots.

Antonio Daniels does that shite during the Pelicans broadcast constantly. Drives me almost as crazy as watching the team play.

I do this to my kids to get them to acknowledge they hear me and comprehended what I told them.
You're not going to leave your clothes on the floor anymore.... (they stare off into the distance as if no one is talking) RIGHT???

Billy Napier does this all the time and it pisses me off. Makes whatever he is saying come out with a lot less confidence.
So does Drew Brees....it's sales speak to try to get your audience to come to your way of thinking, but it sounds weak and gets old just like anything else that's repeated ad nauseum.

It's a tactic used to try and encourage someone to agree with the statement they just made.
Posted on 3/23/23 at 2:36 pm to ItzMe1972
Or start it..... "So, like....."

Can’t say that I’ve ever heard someone use “right” at the end of a sentence.
