The only instance I've seen in modern America give a discount for cash is at a gas station.
I'm not paying $40 cash to fill up and have my change roll around just to save $0.10/gallon. I may fill up twice a month. If I pay cash, I probably save $3/month. That's $36/year, best case scenario. What am I supposed to do with all the change I have remaining? Leave it in grandma's coin purse? That's a pain to keep around and I have almost no reason to ever pay for anything in coins/small bills.
Many handyman/home improvement businesses ONLY accept cash. That's an entirely different conversation. All the work I've done on my house have asked for cash/check and never accepted credit cards. That's fine because I can go to the bank and pay an exact amount in cash since they will charge an amount that's easy to pay from an ATM withdrawal.
They real bullshite is businesses charging extra for credit/debit card transactions. Businesses can deduct those processing fees from their taxes and are essentially tipping themselves for customers not wanting to pay cash.

Paying cash means you avoid the curse of debt.

Be a responsible adult and pay your credit card bills. Never spend what you can't afford to.
My old job I heard "I don't trust credit cards" all too often from actual adults.

Well they HAVE to but often commit criminal tax fraud and evasion and don’t.

Literally paying cash at most food places gives you a deal, you avoid the 4% CC fee they add. Quickbooks takes a 3.75% for a CC charge, if I quote you $6,500 for your outdoor pergola, their is always a cash option savings for you, because i’m not eating that 4%, I pass that down to you.

These people annoy me. Everyone is not a nimrod.
I charge almost everything possible in a credit card. Even when buying a vehicle I will put as much as possible on the card.
Right now I have enough reward points to take a trip anywhere in the world with two free airline tickets and five nights of hotel covered.

Paying cash is influenced by immigrants because it facilitates the black market or underground economy. The foundation of shite hole countries and evading taxes here.

Well that's just wrong. What do you call someone with a credit score of 819 and paid cash for a car?

Depends on the offered interest rate of the car versus the ROI that you could earn having that money working for you elsewhere.

Using that philosophy someone who lives in a $400,000 home should sell it, go buy himself a $80,000 mobile home and invest the rest to get a higher ROI on his money he makes selling his house.
Bottom line, many people just like being debt free and not having to worry about flexible bearing investments.

Start naming places. I've yet to visit a restaurant that still offers this in 2024.

There is one restaurant around here that does a 4% discount with cash

But think of it the other way. It someone has a $400K home loan and only has 2.9% interest rate, it would be really stupid to pay off that loan early.

pay any fee with a credit card
This is the biggest thing, especially post covid. All the card companies upped their transaction fees, and a lot of businesses are passing that along to customers in a surcharge. Or maybe you don’t pay attention to your receipts.

What are you talking about?
Why would you hurry to pay off a 6 percent debt when you have that money making 10 percent?

I clearly said "needing" to pay cash. You "want" to pay cash and you obviously have some credit or loan debt or you wouldn't have an 819 credit score.

It would allow the seller to potentially avoid taxes through keeping it off the books and also not having to pay any fee with a credit card
