Why do people shop/eat at gas stations?

Was getting gas on my lunch break. Was craving a diet Dr. Pepper and ended up splurging on a bag of baked, flaming Cheetos as well. $8 bucks later I said never again. First time I’ve been inside a ‘convenance store’ in a couple years.
It took 15 minutes waiting behind people paying with cash and trying to get lotto tickets. My observations were people that looked of ‘lesser means’ actually shopping. Whether buying what looked like groceries in the amount of stuff as well as people buying the overpriced wings or pizza that appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for several days.
Honestly I could’ve done curbside or self check out HEB in half the time, for half the price a couple blocks away. Or told the patrons a much better meal awaits them at the Pizza Hut or Cane’s across the street.
How do these places stay in business and why do people ‘shop’ at them when there are better options and more convenience elsewhere?
Not worried about the $8 as money is not a big deal to me, but it is to the people I observed.

You answered your own question. You must be poor and fat too.

People need gas and like big gulps and cheetos with their cigarettes and lotto tickets?

This reminds me of: "AS I WATCH THE DOG CHASING HIS TAIL, I THOUGHT DOGS ARE EASILY AMUSED. THEN I REALIZED I WAS WATCHING THE DOG CHASE IT'S TAIL "

People that do this are generally lazy and ignorant.
When I’m being lazy I will occasionally walk in and get a water or something. $1.50 for a bottle of water that I can buy a case(24) of for $4 at a store.
And how the fck do poor people afford to smoke these days?

Someone has never had food from a gas station in the hood.
One of life's great treasures. You can get an adrenaline rush and great food at once. Can't get that anywhere else, at least not for $10.

For years now when I want an energy drink or something I find it easier to do this and its a decent amount cheaper. Just grab whatever and hit the self check out in the same amount of time. I think most people just dont want to have to park further but I dont give a shite.

I assume you’re excluding Wawa from your definition of “gas station?”

None of the bullshite happened.
You walked in, grabbed a drink a chips, stood behind one person getting lotto tickets, that took an extra 20 secs.
If you actually waited 15 mins, you are one dumb mutha

Side hustle and government. Probably make as much as working folks. Drugs, prostitution, etc. lots of cash - no taxes.

You never had Krispy Krunchy chicken or catfish fresh out the fryer?
Never had some Billy’s boudin or cracklins or anything else from the Exxon in Carencro?
Beef jerky from Rita’s in Mamou Prairie?
Shrimp poboy from Danny & Clyde’s out of the Chevron station?

Idk. A 24oz Coke and a big Slim Jim (or equivalent) is like $6 now.
