I know.. well knew a WWII vet who died at 99 a few years ago. The last 10 or so years of his life his running wasn't really running, but he went through the motions. but since I can remember he ran on a regular basis. Are you saying if he didn't run he would have made it to 108?

Sidewalks generally suck. I only run on them when I have to. I try to be as courteous as possible: go early, only side roads, use sidewalks on busy streets. I use the bone conducting headphones so I can hear traffic from both directions.

With all that said, I amazed at the number of people playing on their phones and smoking weed in their cars in the morning.

It has been explained a hundred times.

They don’t care. They just want to bitch because they don’t understand something.

I had a fall while running just a few days ago. I only run on the sidewalk or jogging path and never in the road. I take full responsibility - it was late in my run, I knew I was tired, and I wasn’t really concentrating. My toe hit some uneven pavement and I went down, sort of planted my left hand, ducked my head low, rolled, and ended up on my back. I sat there for a few seconds, got up, and finished the run within my goal time. The only visible injury was a scraped palm where I planted and sore muscles around my ribs on one side. It sucked but this was the first time it’s happened in at least 5 years so I can live with it.

In Louisiana, if there’s a sidewalk, it’s illegal to run in the road; it’s really that simple.

Fat trashy flyover state people park their cars in a way that blocks the sidewalk, then complain when people start walking/running on the street

Because they are entitled assholes. That’s the reason.

ETA: running on the road =/= running in the middle of the road (which is what OP asked)

You weren’t the only one a little confused by the word “middle” here.

To the point of the topic, if the sidewalk is a mess/occupied with crap, then a driver getting pissed because a runner is on the shoulder is the entitled a-hole. Not the runner.

Find another hobby, avoid the aggregation, all while saving your knees.

There’s much better ways for cardio and exercise than running.

Run in the street? Go right ahead. I’ll put on your tombstone “He had a right to run in the street!” That will make your widow and orphans feel better.

And don’t get me started about bicycles in the street. Had one blow right through a stop sign at an intersection where I didn’t have a stop sign right in front of me. Almost hit him and he gave me a dirty look like I should have seen him and stopped. fricking a-hole.

At one time we had four drivers living here (two teens). Occasionally we’d have to park in our driveway in a way that blocked the sidewalk.

The alternative is to perma-park at the curb which I’m sure would irritate you just the same.

Is this the thread where people who haven’t exercised in two decades tell people how to exercise?

I don’t care about people running in the road. They’re usually aware of their surroundings. I just think it’s a pretty unsafe thing to do. Now the people in the road who aggravate tf outta me are the ones walking in the road, dressed in all black, and don’t have the self awareness to get a little bit off the road when a vehicle is approaching.

Because I like to.

Besides, when your area to run is two lane rural roads surrounded by crawfish/rice fields with huge ditches, you kind of don’t have a choice.

2 reasons plus 1 more when it's hot:
1. As said already, crested roads mean running in the middle is your level spot
2. I run in the dark, early. I might see 2 cars in 30 minutes, and being in the middle I can go to the opposite side quickly before they ever have to deal with me.
3. When it's hot I'll take any damn wind I can find, and the more out in the open the more wind, generally.

Where do you imagine I’m putting the car that’s behind the garaged car that I need to drive?

And no, I’m not playing musical cars for some judgmental chode on the internets. If that makes me trashy then whatever buddy.

Yea I only use sidewalks on major streets for runs here. Those are usually in decent shape. Neighborhoods I don’t even bother.
