Why do people like subdivisions?

Having lived in rural areas practically all my life, the idea of these places makes my skin crawl. It's one thing if you have to make a compromise, but a lot of people seek them out when they could make other arrangements. For a 30 minute longer commute you could find some acreage that would give you a little privacy.

Could say same about acerage
Sounds like a lot of shite to take care of that I'd rather spend doing anything else

Where do you live again? You’d have to go further out than 30 mins in my city (especially at rush hour) to find “a little acreage” that’s within proximity to the jobs that would afford you that acreage.

I like sleeping in as late as I can and I hate mowing grass. I like having my gym within walking distance to my house and the grocery store less than a mile away. If I want to get away I go to my families ranch or farm.

Subdivisions = kids for your kids to play with = sex with the wife
= more kids.
= more kids.

30 minutes longer is an hour each day.
That’s 5 hours a week.
That’s 261 hours a year.
You’re literally commuting almost an extra 11 full 24 hour days a year. That is a lot.

Thanks, Jim Bob. You really can never have too much unsolicited advice on the virtues of good old country livin'.

Sense of community. Kids have neighbors to play with. We have neighbors to watch the house when we’re gone. There’s several reasons why we chose to buy near others.

I don’t like yard work.
I like being close enough to get to restaurant, store, golf, etc in 10 minutes.
My commute is about 30 minutes door to door on average.
Adding an hour of daily driving for work has no appeal to me.
I respect that others want privacy, land, and don’t mind driving longer.
To each his own.

Because some people enjoy the amendities of urban life but want as you say, some space and privacy.
It’s not that hard.
You just have to realize that your perspective and preferences don’t define the human condition.

No LUS Fiber out in the sticks. Also, I live 3 minutes from work.

If those areas with acreage would get decent broadband, I'd consider it.
My parents just moved to middle of nowhere Greensburg with satellite internet, and are asking me about cutting the cord and streaming.

How else you gonna make a travel baseball team.
Subdivision kids + ex division 2 player/head coach from subdivision = travel ball championships and 3 future MLB Allstars

If you define subdivisions as isolated housing developments in the suburbs or outside “the city” I’m not a big fan either. I prefer living in a centralized community where schools, restaurants, stores are mostly walkable. I wouldn’t mind having a lake house or something to get away to once in a while out in the country but I don’t care for rural or suburban living full time.

It’s not sonething you can do often, especially once you are a homeowner.
But people often under appreciate how awesome having a less than 15 minute commute can be.
