I grew in the country and we stayed gone from dawn til dusk as kids. Playing in the woods, riding 3 wheelers, fishing, blasting snakes with single shot 4-10s. I wouldn't trade my upbringing for anything.

I like living around people and things. I hated suburban living. I could never get used to rural life. I'm thinking of buying a condo for our next residence.

Exactly. I grew up in a neighborhood but my best times were at my grandparents farm or a friends farm. So much stuff to do.

I grew up in a neighborhood in the country but only a half mile from my grandparents who had 38 acres. My parents were divorced and dad was always working so they practically raised me. I spent more time there than I did at home.

I like being close enough to get to restaurant, store, golf, etc in 10 minutes.
My commute is about 30 minutes door to door on average.
Adding an hour of daily driving for work has no appeal to me.

I respect that others want privacy, land, and don’t mind driving longer.

To each his own.

This, but I'll also add the schools. Not saying that schools in rural areas are always going to be inferior, but it does seem to be the case that the best schools are in the suburbs.

I don’t like subdivisions.

But my wife and children love it.

Walked to school through 8th grade.
Community pools.
Community activities.
Community church.
Wife made great friends and exercises with these women daily.

We have one kid left to graduate and THEN no more subdivision.

What is next? I have no idea.

Maybe a condo downtown. Maybe a cabin in the woods.

Don’t hate the subdivision. It serves its purpose.

I don’t get this either. Subdivisions are so cookie cutter and they all look the same. There is nothing special and unique about them. A subdivision is a subdivision.

What is funny is people on this board who are living in their cookie cutter subdivisions outside of Louisiana and they eat at their chain restaurants, shop at their chain stores, sit in traffic all day long, and they act like they have made it big or something. They come here and brag about being plain. When in fact they are not living in a high rise in Manhattan, Miami, Hawaii, or in a secluded location such as Alaska, Montana, or a small island. These people should brag. But the plain jane cookie cutter suburbs with a ton of traffic equals they have made it big! Hilarious.

Did you not read my entire post. I said how boring life would be if we all liked the same thing. I don't expect everyone to like what I like.

Considering I was not responding to you, no. No, I did not read YOUR post. I responded to the OP. Are you an alter?

I find if funny most people who say this are urbanites living in buildings where every unit is the same, and most buildings are indistinguishable.
