Because they probably had other health problems.

There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of healthy younger people walking around with it right now worldwide.

When we can ship millions of tests per week the real data will emerge.

FWIW the percentage of people tested positive is irrelevant. There’s zero correlation between age and catching this thing. There’s a decent correlation between age and ICU admittance, and there’s a huge correlation between age and death.

But yes, people as young as early 20’s can be hit hard. And without proper medical care they can die

The average age of the victims was 79.5, and the number of deaths in the country surpassed 2,500 this week.

What is the actual statistics behind that?

Oh there are plenty of stats supporting it.

The fault in the logic is the insinuation that they were massively unhealthy with lots of maintence meds going down the gullet and therefore distinct from “normal people” and thus “their people” are safe from the risks.

The reality is that the reports they are citing include “mildly overweight with prehypertension/hypertension” as underlying conditions, which apply to the majority of the US over 30.

Except for that nurse that was in her 30's and just dropped dead.

OT'ers keep bringing up the other health problems, a red herring, because they are too scared to face the truth of the situation and would rather live in denial and believe they are invincible believing they are too young with their "perfect health" will not be affected by coronavirus.

Meanwhile to them perfect health is 230, 5'-7" with undiagnosed hypertension and high cholesterol, a shitty southeastern diet of Cane's, Chick Fil A and fried everything and nights of heavy drinking. With a sedentary lifestyle of posting to the OT and watching sportscenter considered exercise.

People would rather falsely believe the disease will not affect them than emotionally process the fact that they are at risk. See Miami spring breakers, and New Orleans St. Patrick's day partiers.

Obviously her pre-existing condition was poor taste in music festivals.

Because it prevents unwarranted panic to put this into perspective that the overwhelming majority of us that are under 60 are probably going to be fine. Not to belittle those that are at risk, but we don't all need to be proceeding as if we're all going to die. Chaos won't make the situation more manageable, so it's helpful to give people hope/faith that this isn't the bubonic plague we're dealing with here

It's a mix of this and confirming their beliefs that this is a complete overreaction.

The truth is that most of these pre-existing conditions apply to 50% of this board or more.

Every person under 70 who died from it in Louisiana has been listed as having other health conditions. That’s why.

You mean the one that never got test results or had a determined cause of death?

It is this. People don't like changing their minds or admitting they're wrong. People in general will go to great lengths to interpret any data in a way which supports what they already believe to be true.

Just read up on the articles about those who have died. Where they were younger, often the article states that there were underlying health problems. Will there be young, healthy people who get very sick and die? Yes. But the stats bear out beyond dispute that the overwhelming majority of the deaths are the very old or the already very unhealthy.

Heard from a local doctor that a man in his fifties is probably going to die who was otherwise healthy.
