I've always thought all Americans should give two years in the service directly after high school. This would help with this thinking
We don't have the infrastructure for that and it would cost a fortune just to pay them. Would be a disaster.

Who do you base your opinion on? The only folks that I am aware of that join for other motives are the trannies that Biden and Austin welcomed in with open arms. They wanted the operations, medicines and the fact that they couldn't ever be deployed because of their medical condition.
And yes, while some may join to get college benefits, they still are subject to be deployed into combat situations. That's just part of the job and they know fully that they are rolling the dice.
Give some respect to those who volunteer to fight for those who don't. I served and I am damn proud to have done it!

The US military has been outstanding this year. The things they have done are mind bending. Meduro, Ayatollah, 15,000 missions with only 12 deaths. Its really unbelievable.
When we outspend the world 2 times over, we fricking better perform this way.

Jack Reacher says: Family tradition, need a job, patriotism and ability to kill without getting convicted.

Because many join to just get a job with few if any other options. Some of the ones I see wandering around airports would be hard pressed to get hired as a barista at Starbucks. This is not your grandpa’s military.

I enlisted in May 1988 fully expecting to be obliterated via nuclear hellfire somewhere in Germany at some point in time. But that was a different age and we were cut from a different cloth.

100%, never heard a young person say he/she joined for insurance and I did 32 years.
If they heard that, guaranteed they were overhearing a dependapotomus conversation and also guaranteed that in the week previous, she had uttered the words: "Do you know who my husband is?" I also bet that said husband was a 92Y E5 shitbag that lived for giving soldiers hell while they returned gear after a deployment.

Because no one wants to die in a war they don’t believe in.
Then don’t join the military. You don’t belong in it if you’re not willing to fight whenever called upon by your country and your commander-in-chief.

Why does the Space Force need camouflage?

Cant know everyone's motivations but I think we can safely assume 99% of American service members didn't join the military to fight overseas wars of aggression because a client state made them. This post is full of bad points, but you really added "Why did you join in the first place?" right after criticizing a Marine who stated nobody wanted to fight for Israel? You understand he is a United States Marine, correct?
Ironically, your post is full of terrible points. Lol
When you join the military, you’re swearing an oath of allegiance to the commander-in-chief and the country. You don’t get to pick and choose which conflicts you will be called into to fight. If that’s your attitude, then don’t join the military. You don’t belong in it.
Also, just because a mentally-ill marine says “nobody wants to fight for Israel!”, that doesn’t mean that that’s actually what’s going on here. We’re fighting to protect American security interests; Israel is NOT running the show. They hold no cards here.

No, you are not. I know what I said, and it wasn't that.

It’s crazy how many people join the military and then have no expectation at all of fighting or seeing any combat.
Something like 80-90% are in support (non-fighting) positions to support the 10%+ that are on the front lines.
More than that 10% end up in the war zone in support roles that require carrying a gun.

I don’t know why “people” do, but I can tell you why one of my relatives (by marriage) did.
He was an anti-war lib, with about an 85 IQ, who joined the Navy because he was a screwup. When we asked him about the possibility that he would have to go to war in violation of his strongly held beliefs he said (and I promise I am not making this up), “My recruiter told me that if it’s a war I strongly object to I can get a deferral.”
And
to that recruiter.

I don't get it either, you're first responsibility in the military is to be a solider.

Anyone who thinks the military swears allegiance to the CINC needs to sit this one out.

Studies have also found that poor kids out of high school join the military for medical insurance
This is a surefire example of why you’re a liar. 99.9% of kids out of high school don’t give a shite about medical insurance. I don’t think I went to a doctor more than twice in college and it was for broken bones.

The last thing on my mind enlisting at 18 was medical insurance. I didn’t give a shite about it when I got out either. In my 30s I started to care
