Is the pleasure you get from dog ownership additive or exponential?

Because the piss and shite surely is.

One is a tracking dog and the other is a coon and squirrel hunting dog.

Cause I let my wife talk me into that shite...

Had to put my black lab down in March, down to one.. Yellow lab that's 12, and has a bladder tumor, so I don't know how much longer he'll be around...

I love dogs, but after that, I'm done.. Been picking up dog shite for 15 years...

one dog blood trails and the other kills rats. one showed up at the house and has been a good dog so no reason to give her the boot

My favorite argument is "because my dog looks bored". So you bought your lab a dachshund to play with?

My biggest issue with 2 dogs is that my parents or a friend can watch my single dog if I go on vacation. With 2 dogs, that's now a huge PITA to ask. Like you said, we take our dog to friends and family all the time, as well as neighbors. She is not bored.

You ever watch two dogs grow up together? Endless entertainment.

I originally got a second dog to give my first dog company when I was away at work all day.

It made a difference.

I didn't get them. They just showed up and I kept them.

But yes, the joy I get from my pack of miscreants is truly rewarding. The little effort it takes to clean up after them is more than worth it.

I have 3. 3 is really pushing the limit. 2 is the perfect number for dogs.

2 dogs is easier than 1 dog

1 dog gets bored. a bored dog is a destructive dog. 2 dogs always have someone to kick it with.

Yep. Got a brother and sister when they were 6 months. 10 years later, and my girl had to be put down recently so it's just the boy now. He's a different dog without her. Still playful and happy, but you can tell when we leave now it's a bigger deal to him, where as before it was more like "yeah get the hell outta here so i can get some sleep. i'll see ya when you get back". Now it's like, "i'm never gonna see you again huh. Please take me, please please please"

He literally got in the car one morning when i was bringing the kids to school and refused to get out. We had just gotten back from vacation and left him at home for 4 days so i guess he figured if we were going to leave again, he was making damn sure he wasn't getting left behind again.
And before some idiot says something about it, i like leaving him at home to guard the house when we head out for a few days, and we have a doggy door. I think he'd rather that than go to my parents. Regardless if he stays home or goes somewhere else, he doesn't eat when i'm gone, so he might as well do that from home. Hell when i go on work trips and he's home with the wife and kids and doesn't eat.

My husband had one when we first met.

I had one when we first met.

So now we have two.

Sometimes we really want another one when we see shelter posts and stuff, but we don't want to be outnumbered so we will stick with two.

2 hands, 2 dogs. That's the perfect number.

I have had 2 dogs now for over 20 years. In the times when one has passed, the remaining dog will clearly become depressed and lonely. My wife and I work all day, so their alone at the house. Adding a second dog helps everyone.

Having 2 dogs isn't twice as hard as having 1 dog. But I bet having 3 dogs is more than 3 times as hard.

But I'm a dog person. I never trust someone that doesn't like dogs. But I trust a dog that doesn't like a person.

Been resisting the wife for 5+ years now. She's not giving up.
One is plenty.

We each had one when we got together. They’re best friends now, sleep together, eat together; everything.
When one is away for the night or at the vet the other constantly paces around the house and doesn’t like to eat.
