Because my dog pees a little when it sees me because it is so happy. Well my wife pees a little when she sneezes, but she blames that on the kids.

You can't use the most extreme examples and apply them to all pets. Most pets are innocent. We take them in as part of our families. They rely on us for everything. It's our duty to protect them.

Animals aren't complicated humans that suck. They're innocent, and then when you add that they become family it's hard not to understand it.
There are many humans i would gladly let die before my pets. Many.
I think it speaks to a positive part of human nature, however, that we would defend them more ardently than in centuries past.

If your dog sees a bird’s nest he will go over there and kill every baby chick in the nest without thinking twice. Why don’t the chicks deserve love and protection? They are animals just like a dog and a cat. Why can they be slaughtered by a stupid dog and nobody even give it a second thought.

When your animal kills another animal it is ok. If another animal harms your animal…not ok. Not all animals deserve respect I guess.
People are mistaking animals for families and human relationships. Just a bizarre time we are living in.

Because most people suck - particularly in today's time. There are very few people I could go on a month's long vacation or backpacking trip with that I would choose over my dogs.

My labs I had growing up were better than most people. Humans are terrible and cruel.
