Here in Tuscaloosa the fire department rolls to every accident. Even a minor one where their are no injuries and there is no need for a tow truck.

As a fireman, when we get calls we seldom know how bad it is. When I first got hired we would only send out our ambulances to wrecks especially if it was called in as minor. Firemen (my fire dept does ambulance) get in scene and decide whether we need rescue or fire truck. After multiple times of getting called to minor wrecks and showing up with someone trapped or car on fire and nothing but an ambulance on scene lawsuits started piling up. Now we send fire truck and rescue, and now people bitch about that

We ran our cars in the summer for two reasons.

Heat and computers

That polyester uniform is hot as frick

That computer is running all the time and you have to reboot it when you turn the car off

I remember when the state troopers would pop the hood during a traffic stop to help keep the engine cool while idling.

Why you getting so mad? So you can make your comments, but I can’t have a rebuttal? Sorry, didn’t realize I had stepped into the trigger zone

cheaper 2 keep running than keep turning off, turning on,turning off, turning on. So i have been told by many other people who own commercial vehicles.

I don't know where you live but I'm positive they do pay for it. Cops pay taxes just like you do. It always pisses me off when people say I pay that cops salary. By the police officer paying taxes he\she basically paying for there own salary. If you live in a place where police officers are tax exempt please share that secret, I'm sure every police officer in America would want to work there.

Yeah well I don’t want to pay for your fricking kids to go to school, but I’m paying for that shite. So we’re even.

This may be true when they’re just starting out, but by retirement most cops, and teachers for that matter, are doing just fine. Look at the Parkland deputy in Florida. He’s retiring in his early 50s with a $100k a year pension.

Bull shite. We have the right to question them, and it's their responsibility to prove the need. Just like people did in here.

Govt has a problem with spending money, and revisiting procedures. We have all the right in the world to question them as they are the employee of the citizen, and the citizen is their customer.

It's still the private sectors money that is paying the salary. A govt employees taxes is just giving itself money back that it already had.

And not saying that cops shouldn't get a better deal.

I like how you put protecting and serving in quotes. Even a cops' spouse realizes thats a sham.

If you don't want to flip burgers or spend your day off working, then better yourself and find a better job.

quote:

Did you know some of those guys actually have to pay a “detail fee” for use of the car and gas during that time?

I would wonder if you're seriously bitching about not being allowed to use an employers' resources for non-job related purposes for free. But then I remember your husband is a cop, so that disqualifies you from being rational or logical.

But hey, who doesn’t love getting charged more to work more? Isn’t that what our entire economic system is based on?

The economic system is based on people having the freedom and ability of choice to do what they want. If you and your husband are unhappy with his choice, that's yall's own damn fault.

For exactly this reason. You people bitch and moan about everything and anything a cop does, yet when your meth deal goes wrong and someone blows a hole in your arse you expect them to “protect and serve”. Despite all of the repeated attempts to villanize an entire group of people based on your diluted theory that the few shite bags represent the whole, my husband gets up everyday and never complains as he continues to work for a public that wouldn’t piss on him to put out a fire.

Better yourself? That’s nice. He loves what he does. I could not be prouder of who he is and what he stands for. I feel sorry for you. You must be a miserable person to have such a shitty outlook.

I never said either person was unhappy with that choice. What makes me unhappy is miserable, self loathing little shits who hide behind a computer playing keyboard nazi and spewing their venomous point of view on issues they can’t relate to or don’t know anything about. Im unhappy becuase one day you or someone you love will need a cop and they will be there, regardless of the fact you hate them and don’t even know them.

Yeah, just drop it. I've had people come up to me and bitch about fire departments before, it's usually white males between 18-25 who have just moved out of their momma's nest and know everything. Not always, but 99% of the time. When you simply and politely explain everything, they resort to well if you hate your job you shouldn't do it, even though, I never even come close to saying or hinting towards hating my job.

quote:

You people bitch and moan about everything and anything a cop does

Has become much more popular since social media, people see others do it so much, over the years more and more jump on the bandwagon. Some of the comments about police and fire are so far off it's fun to read just to get a laugh.

quote:

my husband gets up everyday and never complains as he continues to work for a public

99% of us don't, same with teachers, but on social media you'd think all public servants get on their soap box and bitch all day long about our jobs. Unfortunately, for people on here at least, in reality it's extremely seldom, I don't know a single fireman, teacher, or cop, who bitches about their job. Only time I've seen it was a teacher once bitched about some parents to me, but that was years ago.

quote:

What makes me unhappy is miserable, self loathing little shits who hide behind a computer playing keyboard nazi

It shouldn't make you unhappy, I'm pretty sure your husband doesn't care one bit, neither should you.

ETA: The truth is teachers, police, fire, emergency room nurses, etc, are easy targets. Everyday on social media they get bashed locally or nationally, especially locally among emergency room nurses and teachers. People know public servants aren't usually gonna come on and defend themselves on something like FB, it's like taking candy from a baby. They can over dramatize a story, completely make it up, etc and nobody will ever hear the other side of the argument. So now, it's just become a common thing to bash them, and yell MY TAX DOLLARS, or my mom got robbed by cops, or ER doctor killed my dad, or fireman just sit around and workout, even though most of these people are barely 20 years old that raise hell about public servants and just don't have a clue. But they can get on here and say they know such and such, who does such and such, and all they do is such and such, blah blah blah. Just enjoy the thread and eat popcorn while reading it.
