Why do cajuns put a "T" in front of their names?

is it for "petit" as in little? this is the only conclusion i can logically work out. Thanks!

Lil John and the east side boys wouldnt be named that if they were from Houma instead of ATL.

How come Louisiana rappers don't call themselves "T Wayne," etc? that would be kinda cool.

In Louisiana you would be "little bird"

I got family there, but we never used the "T" moniker.
