quote:I thought highly of W&K up until the past few weeks. 10 years ago the idea of Charles immediately stepping aside was floated and then this February The Queen came out and said his divorced whore could be QC. William is a carbon copy of his old man (with even less hair) and Kate has developed a serious case of resting bitch face.
With Charles being a Cuck it could struggle for a few years but they seem to love William and Kate.
Frankly my opinion of The Firm is as low as it could go after how petty they were by not allowing the Harry, who actually served TWO TOURS IN A WAR ZONE, to wear his military regalia (except for the 6 minute Firm choreography photo op by the casket). You also had the 4 adults under Charles go out to meet the crowd and there's a video out there of people pulling their hands back and treating Meagan like shite...in the US they'd be doxxed amid people screaming racism. (I'm not a fan of her either.)
All that said they will continue to exist because they are money makers for the Commonwealth. If you watched the ascension ceremony the monarchy gives a ton of their assets over in return for what the government pays them. Essentially it's a lease for what they rightfully own.
OTOH, I think it's the end of them as HOS for Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a few smaller countries. I have 0 trust in US media so my nightly news is from the Sydney 4pm AEST newscast. Going forward I just don't see the Commonwealth countries repeating what they just did again.

Some of y'all are trying to justify royalty by bringing up our own government shortcomings. The problem falls on the people who allow it to happen, because they are too busy watching queens get buried and the Kardashians to know what is going on in our Country, and more importantly each one's individual State.

Why do Americans treat their elected representatives like royalty rather than holding them accountable?

It's a disgusting combination of royalty and celebrity.

I was thinking the same way, looking at it through an American viewpoint.
However, there is a British law that prohibits veterans from wearing uniform from 1894. When Harry left The Firm, he gave up the right to wear uniform as a HRH and paid member of the Royal Family. Just like Andrew, who also served in the Falklands but was outed as a buddy of Jeffery Epstein.
Harry's actions have consequences as does Andrew's.

You know a lot about the royal family.

I wish we had a monarchy here. Can’t be worse that leaving it up the average American citizen’s vote.
Honestly, a monarchy, a true monarchy, is a superior form of government than the mongrel regime that we have today.

At its heart, Britain is a monarchy.

The thing that would bother me if I were British is how much tax payer money it costs to keep the monarchy going. It was around 100m pounds last year.

I don't know why Brits like the royals, but I think it's cool. I'm not sure what there is to put up with. It's a tradition 6x older than our country. It's not a big deal to acknowledge that it's cool to maintain a tradition that long.
I don't get into the personalities of the family, more just the idea of it, the formality, pomp and circumstance, ceremony, etc.
I like the architecture too. Westminster is always a treat to see in person.

quote:I know you're exaggerating, but this is typical of Monarchists unable to provide concrete numbers to these huge tourist dollars they supposedly bring in.
They bring in 99% of the UK's tourism dollars.
The British Museum , National & Tate Galleries, Museum of Scotland & even the damn Chester Zoo bring in more tourists than the Royal Palaces. Kick out the billionaire celebrity freeloaders & make Buckingham & Windsor full time museums like the Louvre or Versailles & it would bring in even more money / visitors.

Deep down, the Brits are an instinctually conservative people-- and you don't get more conservative than embracing the British Monarchy.

I met 4 couples on vacation in Cancun last week from England.
All 4 said “frick the queen”.

The British Constitutional Monarchy has one of the most stable,long-lasting forms of Govt in History
Survived multiple WW wars ( not just 1&2) faced down dictators, developed the world economy almost single-handedly
America was isolationist til post WW1
