Why do Americans demonize street drugs but celebrate alcohol?

It's fascinating. Everywhere you turn brewery this, best liquor that. You would think they would be against it given how many lives it's destroyed and the addiction it causes.

I get what you saying about the horrors of alcoholism but you can be the guy that only has a few drinks on a special occasion while it's doubtful you can be the guy that only bangs heroin or meth once in a blue moon.

Because alcohol was often the only potable liquid around for centuries. It is a food product. It served a purpose beyond mere intoxication.
