Ignorance and hypocrisy. It's what Americans do best these days.

I'm off to bed. It is a pointless argument. People have it ingrained in them "hard drugs" are so much worse than alcohol

So on an individual basis alcohol is more dangerous to society. That is my point. And shouldn't that be what we are the most worried about when making a law?

My reply wasn't framed around the legality of drugs or alcohol or the creation or repeal of a law, it was intended to offer an answer to the OP's question.

And I think it makes the OPs point stronger

Alcohol is more dangerous to the people around them

Heroin is more dangerous for the actual user

Yet alcohol is the legal substance. That logic makes ZERO sense at all

Alcohol is also a pretty boring intoxicant when compared to psychedelics, weed, ecstasy. I would rather hang out with people consuming the last three substances rather than people drinking alcohol any day. They are generally more intelligent and have more substance as people as well.

My cousin gets blind drunk every night, but she does heroin only on weekends, and she is the best person in her surgery unit.

So alcohol is worse?

The answer to this question is so simple that I'm shocked anyone would even ask it. 1 is legal & the other is not. I'm sure it's already been answered but I don't have time to read all the replies right now.

I think we are arguing where an argument doesn't exist between us. To say that alcohol doesn't have a vast effect on societal problems is to have one's head in the sand just the same as to suggest there is no societal issues with heroin/opiate use.

It seems you have an interest in this topic. May I suggest Dreamland: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic by Sam Quinones? It's very well done, doesn't take sides and is very empathetic to the addict.

We get it, you fancy yourself and open minded sophisticate above the rabble, but you're trying too hard with this post. The people I knew who consumed those substances thought themselves intellectuals and philosophers but were really unoriginal blatherers.

Not at all. I wouldn't touch that shite. But I'm not an idiot who thinks it is somehow more dangerous to society than alcohol

Your original response said alcohol was the worst drug there is. Now you're qualifying that with "to society."

Culture.

I highly recommend Ishmael and The Story of B for reading material re: the recursiveness of culture. We tell ourselves stories which become fact, etc. Look at the NFL. Brought to you by Budweiser while randomly testing for weed.

It probably is. I haven't tried every drug but alcohol is probably the shittiest one I have tried. Calories and hangovers, and the "buzz" from alcohol is tame.

He needed baking soda instead of salt if he wanted to make Crack. I'm sure Mary Magdalene knew that.
