On infrastructure alone you can make a case for this.
I think this thread shows a ton of OP's point. Residents get butthurt, and nothing gets done because it's "us vs them."

BR rental market is overinflated due to LSU and outpricing culcha. Similar situation with housing. You have large swaths of the parish destroyed by trash.
White collar job market does suck
White flight exists everywhere
Agree about the disinvestment in education. Only making the problem worse.
Tort reform is needed. Can't watch a commercial break without seeing a PIA coomerical.
Most people stay because of family. I want my parents to have a close relationship with their grandchild.

I know you referenced having a woman, but I just want to change the subject for a moment and say that D.C. is an educated single man's dream city. I recently went there for a conference, and hot damn was it terrific! There is such a high female to male ratio and a significant deficiency of educated men.
Any halfway decent-looking, sociable, college-educated male can have his pick. I wish I lived there.

I love LA. Never gonna leave. That being said, politics are horrendous and jobs are very hard to come by

Op understands nothing about law. His ignorance of tort reform clearly shows he has his head up his arse. Tort reform in 1996 was to severe and needs to be rolled back.
He's not alone, by any stretch. Unfortunately, most people don't have a clue how the tort system works or how it should work. Also, most have bought into the 100% bullshite myth that tort reform brings business investment and lowers insurance rates. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that either of those is true.

I enjoy going back to see family and friends and getting some of the best food available in the country.
No way I'm moving back though.
This is kinda where I'm at. There's still many things that I enjoy / miss about there...but a plane ride home and a few days with everyone fixes that. I can't say that I'll never go back but as time passes, I find that it takes more to make me consider it.

CRev, what is your top three reasons for wanting to move to Louisiana?

NYC > D.C. D.C. has too many of the frumpy politicos.

I'm in the midst of a job search to try and relocate home from DC after 5 years away. Problem is there is no business infrastructure to support working professionals. Lets break down the jobs available in Louisiana:
1. Engineer
2. Injury Lawyer
3. Payroll Clerk
4. Small bait shop salesman.
5. State government
You have got to be kidding. The woman and I both have Masters degrees now and solid work experience, but there's nothing here.
The schools are so bad, you have to selectively place your child in a perfect school district that's overcrowded or compete for placement in handful of the decent schools in private school...while dropping 8K a year.
Why do you think 10% of all people born in Louisiana move to Texas? Especially Houston. I swear half the people in Houston are from Louisiana. Cheaper cost of living, more jobs and better paying jobs, public schools are better than Louisiana private schools and save the money.

LOL they want to raise the gasoline taxes in Louisiana to fix the roads.
I did not know this. That is hilarious. DOTD gonna finally finish that master plan they started on in 1993.
you got it. 38.4 cents per gallon is what we pay currently. Only 11% actually goes to road maintenance/construction. JBE wants to raise the gas tax another .20-.25 per gallon.
People should be protesting in the streets, but they aren't. Its fricking pitiful.

You can get a one bedroom in DC that's decent quality for $1700-$2,000. In Baton Rouge, there are places that think they can get $1,300.00. Has Baton Rouge lost its mind? LOL
They don't think they can get $1300/month. They are getting $1300/month. If people are willing to pay that's what they will charge.

LOL the biggest economies in the United States have seen and passed Tort Reform in California and Texas.
But I guess the only thing it hurts is little old grandma getting hit by the 18-wheeler...oh...and the personal injury lawyers getting fat off the system.

People should be protesting. LA DOTD is one of the most corrupt organizations in the state. So just go ahead and give a very corrupt organization more money to waste on make believe people and raises for people to stand around and do nothing.

I was quite serious about the comparison.
Anacostia is better than most (not all) of BR and it isn't close.

Moved from LA in the 80s to ATL for the same reasons. Nothing has changed and don't regret it. Visiting is great; living there...?
