Why can't any bars stay open on W. Chimes?
Seems like you could print money having a bar over there,

Mahoneys was open for less than a year I think. I remember the owner getting mad about the smoking regulations people were trying to pass (apparently you could smoke in there)
Them allowing smoking is why I never went... they looked to have some pretty great drink specials and even some solid beers on tap. However, not worth it to come home smelling like cigarettes.

It's unfortunate that happens what with the Chimes right there and the proximity to campus for tailgaters and visitors coming through

Slinky's has been open for a good while.
That's because Pam might be the best bar owner/manager in town.

Parking, Most people live on the other side of campus, only underage people live on campus within walking distance, and only a couple of apartment complexes are over there.
The ones just south of campus are walking distance.

when did the Bayou burn down. That place was a local treasure. Next you guys are going to tell me the Caterie is closed too.

Gayest post of the year.
If I don't come home smelling like a 17th century new Orleans bar, the night was a bust.

I have a buddy that every time a business closes down, he says they should put a bar in its place. It could be anywhere in town - from the sketchy area of Highland to smack in the middle of College Drive.
Personally, I think we have enough bars. I don't say that because I wouldn't like more variety; I say it because rarely is a bar at full capacity in BR. With rent prices around town, very few new bars could draw the crowds needed to keep it alive.
As much as I hate to see it, W. Chimes would kill with more quick service chains. There was an article in Business Report yesterday about how BR is ranked 11th for desirable markets for quick service chains, but there is a lack of desirable available space keeping them from coming (traffic through the place, ability for drive thru, etc.). Then they mentioned that the LSU Pita Pit is the highest performing Pita Pit in the nation. Just think of the money they'd print at Zoe's Kitchen or Panera Bread if they put those places on W. Chimes. College kids love that shite.

I'm ashamed to say that is the only bar I've ever been asked to leave.

I wish they could figure it out and that would be a row of bars for post LSU games.
You want the solution? Raze all the section 8 housing, buy up all the slumlords and chase the criminals out of the area.
There is no excuse why the states Flagship University, in the capitol city, is surrounded by hoodlums and ne'er-do-wells.

It was never the same after August 1995.

Because people aren't into shitty dive bars anymore. They don't like cigarette smoke and don't like feeling like they'll get mugged when they stumble out.

I have no clue about 2017
But in 1996, we would play free pool from 3-6 and drink cheap pitchers as 18yo. In 1997, after ben wynn died, I couldnt drink a drop there.

Good for you... for me that's a great reason to avoid a place.
