Question, do you believe in the concept of separation of Church and state?

Has nothing to do with whether or not they should be taxed

Not all people or entities are taxed the same on property and property taxes vary by location.

Sales tax should be applied equally also.

This is a local issue. And what do churches sell?

It’s completely unclear what the OP was wanting taxed.

church employees are payroll taxed. the building and program do not earn a profit. they generally do good work. What portion of the program do you want to tax?

Why should NGOs and churches get a free pass on taxes and then preach at us what we should do.

If it can not stand like a business, it should close.

Not taxing is picking winners and losers.

Separation of church and state means no sponsored religion. Not that religion gets a pass on taxes.

How much tax is there on zero profit?

My income the last few years has been 0$, I don’t even file anymore.

It’s like what Ghandi said when asked what he thought about Western Civilization:

I think it would be a good idea if it existed.

I'm not the state, and I get taxed, so should houses of worship. Render unto Caesar, and all that. Maybe add an infidel tax to ones we don't like, too.

So you want to tax all nonprofits? You realize that income to individuals from nonprofits is taxed, right?

This thread is chock-o-block full of idiotic statism.

So by that thought, should someone totally on welfare not have services of a fire or police dept.? The library? Would those homes be listed in a database?

That may be one of the dumbest things I've read here.

You've got to be joking.

Why?

Preachers pay income tax on earnings, just like you or I.

I dont think people understand the difference between a non-profit and "tax'-free".

You all know Ochnser is a non-profit, right?

Yes, and isn’t the state favoring the church by not requiring them to pay taxes? The ice cream shop or pizzeria or whatever that’s next door to the church has to pay taxes.

Is the ice cream shop or pizzeria designed as an entity that donates most of its money? If so, then it could work on becoming tax exempt itself.
