Golf doesn’t seem to be that big in Baton Rouge. I just moved from there and I can’t think of seeing that many courses the whole time I was there. (Highland, Old Perkins, Baker, ?) As a comparison, there are 35 to 50 courses in the Birmingham area where I moved. There are about 7 or so within 5 miles of my house.
Funny enough, even though I lived in Baton Rouge about 8 years, I don’t know what I would say the big outdoor activity is. When I lived in Texas, everybody seemed to have a boat and had a hunting lease. I never saw a lot of boats in Baton Rouge either. No one in my neighborhood hunted either. Watching their kid’s sports and watching LSU sports are about all that anyone participated in as an outdoor activity.

Didn’t they all move out of Baton Rouge?

Had midnight sex many times on that front nine. Never hit a car off #9 but came close a few times.

Played Webb lately? The greens are horrendous

played the course in the 1967 period. two memories, if you hit a low ball into the railroad track it came back at you faster. second, I got to orient a big busted girl friend on the game of golf and we had serious discussion about weather her elbows should pass above or below the boobs.

Isn't that where they are building a new basketball arena?

We have put in place an EDD on LSU's campus," Engquist said. "We're in the process of putting together a sub-district there. Each of those entities will provide 1 cent to the developer and then at the point in time this gets signed up and it's real, then they'll ask the city for 2 cents."
This whole set up seems shady especially the developers getting the revenue and the added sales tax. I thought their revenue was going to be from renting out the arena for events besides LSU basketball and getting 100% of that revenue.
Also not a fan of additional private development around the arena on LSU land.
When someone who will likely benefit from the development is on the board and talking like LSU or local govt will pay nothing while leaving out that the people and that LSU will lose out on controlling the situation or the land for decades it just seems like BS.
They also better include infrastructure to help students safely walk or bike across Nicholson with all the increase in traffic that will bring.

You should be able to afford a country club. If not, you are a poor and need to learn basketball. Golf is for the elite and talented,
Was laughing last night retelling a story of when some apparently azn tycoon billionaire picked up my ball and put it in his pocket at Pebble right where I think the 12th and 9th fairways run perpendicular. Apparently it was funny on several levels, me giving this billionaire a lecture on etiquette and him reach in his pocket and handing me my ball he stole.
Golf is the great equalizer imo imho fwiw

My dad broke a winshield on 9. I hit the CEBA building quite a few times which was surprising bc I usually played a draw but i would hit a push slice on that hole
Was 9 the par 3 that faced south and ran right along Nicholson? That was absolutely the source of my vehicle encounters
We used to skip class to go drink beer and play a round. It was really cheap back then too with a student ID.

Going to build some housing projects.

Yeah, Enquist is being so benevolent saying it won’t cost LSU anything. It will cost the Public mightily and developers are not doing this project to lose money. These economic development districts are created in areas where there are no residents to avoid having to conduct an election to increase sales taxes. They know voters will reject such increase. Sales taxes in BR are the highest in the country now and will be insane when you make a purchase inside their “district.”

They said on the news that the land is being considered for the new arena

You have to get out of the city to be around the hunters and boat people. I guess its still like that, I remember growing up, people from baton rouge we knew were not too familiar with hunting and fishing unless they were from a family who had a camp somewhere. And I am not that far from BR, however; where I am a lot of people hunt, etc.

It was just about breaking even with 15k rounds a year, even considering the bad conditions. This sucks.
My theory, they were purposely letting it go downhill to justify the shutdown.

Worked at the course and at the range in the early/ mid 80’s. A girl was murdered jogging on the path next to the railroad track and was found many weeks later. Her body was found in the tall grass 20yds from the 18th green. The smell was horrendous, and everyone thought it was a dead cow in a field across from the clubhouse where Walk-Ons is now.

Lot's of fun memories on the front 9.
I went to LSU in the early 90's and had some ex-HS buddies that were student workers at the course.
We would sneak in there after hours and race around on the golf carts after some beers. We managed to mangle a few carts once or twice.
If I had to guess there wasn't enough real full time staff to keep the place up properly, like most state run facilities and stuff on campus (Student workers tearing up golf carts probably didn't help!)

LSU is building a basketball arena instead of golf.
It’s been rumored that Baton Rouge has one of the highest % basketball players per capita in the country.
Golf is for people who don’t live in Baton Rouge. Maybe some in St. George, but definitely not BR.
