Why are there no decent public golf courses in Mandeville/Madisonville/Covington?

Wal-Mart was built on one. I can’t say it was any good.

I think the course building boom of the mid 90’s to mid 2000’s is long gone.

Look at the popularity of TopGolf.

Private courses are struggling with membership and rounds these days are nearly 6 hours long.

Not to mention when everything is more expensive than ever before, do people from ages 30-45 have an extra $300 or more per month to spend on a private course membership?

Some membership fees are over $600 a month!

No public golf courses are full of riff raff.
They generally are crappy and will become crap and I for one don't want to pay for it w/ taxes.
We have multiple private courses.
Join or get some friends who are. They have plenty across the lake take a 40min ride.

It'd be great if the lakefront area in West St. Tammany had suitable land for a golf course.

The new fad is to join a private gym/club like the pelican athletic club.

That’s just not true everywhere. The Oklahoma City area has a decent collection of solid public courses with good management. I’m sure there are plenty of other examples.

When the game went to public A La Cart, it drove down prices and there’s less money for maintenance. As mentioned, there’s a bunch of trash playing now who drive carts on the greens, don’t let faster groups play through, etc.

I can’t speak for all private course but Tchefuncte just doubled the membership fee so there are people willing to pay for a quality golf course and level of service.

A championship level course at Fontainebleau State Park would crush
