Beau Chene has 2 courses.
Like tunechi said, Money Hill or (I’ll add) Carter Plantation should scratch your itch.

Even in our current economic environment?

No thanks, leave the park alone.

Definitely. There aren't really any water front courses of that scale in the state.
Eta: I read this as "near" Fontainebleau, not "at" Fontainebleau.
I was thinking more along the lines of the undeveloped swamp land between Hwy 22 and the Lake, west of the Beau Chene area.

Are you insinuating that CCC isn’t a top level track?

I'd rather drive to Amite or Springfield

Private courses are struggling with membership and rounds these days are nearly 6 hours long.
Golf courses are doing great since Covid. Yes, pace of play is an issue. But it’s also a sign of more golf being played.

The same reason there is no public transportation.

It was the integrated course. I still have a couple of dinner plates with their crest on it.

It has been about 20 years since I was last there, but there were great public courses in Charleston South Carolina everywhere. And I wouldn’t consider the place a shite hole.

If it takes 6 hours for a round then it's more likely public or semi-private. Our course has pace of play of 4 hours off path 4:15 on path. A real course has marshals that keep groups up with pace of play. Played a 4-some this morning with carts on-path and we finished in 3:40 and we are all 10+ handicaps. Granted we didn't have to wait on a group in front of us.

do people from ages 30-45 have an extra $300 or more per month to spend on a private course membership
Only $300 per month??? That might be part of the issue as well.
