Great rebuttal to my point.

I say in every single one of these threads that the Tundra is a great truck. Tundra people are incapable of hearing the slightest criticism of their precious truck though,

With those inventory numbers what are the chances you will find the exact Ford you want at the price point you want compared to the Tundras?

Ford, GM, and Chrysler just have more cab, bed, color, engine, and transmission variations to choose from to begin with. In fact there are so many variations to the Silverado that I don't think it is possible for most dealers to stock one example of each configuration. Ford, Ram, Chevy, and GMC also sell a boat load of stripped down HD trucks and work vehicles to industrial fleet and agricultural buyers that the Tundra doesn't target. They also have the advantage of a massive dealership network in smaller towns whose economy depends heavily on agricultural business.

Maggio GMC in New Roads, for example, sells a lot of fairly standard gasoline and diesel powered pickups every year to big buyers in the Sugar Cane and Cattle industry. The community is too small to support a dealership that depended on small or mid sized car sales as much as Toyota does...so GMC gets those sales. That's just kind of a challenge Toyota has in reaching that kind of buyer. They also don't have anything but mid sized or half ton pickups.

There are hundreds of very small Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, and Dodge Ram dealers in smaller towns that primarily sell pickup trucks to very loyal buyers that use them as work vehicles.

Most of the Tundras on the lots out here are 2wd crew cabs. Even if you wanted a Tundra in any configuration other than that and you need a truck this week, you are going to have to buy a Ford or Chevy. If you were in one of those smaller towns, you'd be driving a long distance to buy and service a Toyota anyways. You may as well buy a domestic branded truck.

Toyota's are by and large about $5K higher than other brands and people pay it. They don't create all the gimmicky trim levels and such.

Toyota isn't trying to sell more Tundra's than other truck brands, they are focused more on reliability and owner loyalty.

Does this lie ever get old?

The cheapest 2017 F150 Platinum at Mac Haik FOrd (known for their extremely aggressive internet pricing) is $53k. You can get a 2017 Tundra Platinum with similar features for the same price, or less.

They primarily sell trucks to Toyota people in mid sized or larger metro areas. That's where their dealerships are. That's how their trucks are configured. That's their market.

As far as reliability and owner loyalty....this isn't compact cars and it's not the 1980s. Full sized trucks are what the domestic manufacturers like General Motors and Ford have always done VERY well. Their products are reliable, affordable, and easily serviced in towns of all sizes. Most importantly their buyers are very loyal.

They also offer diesel engines, medium duty power trains, and configurations ideal for agricultural or industrial use that Toyota doesn't have.

Users that are buying a regular cab diesel Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with a manual 4x4 shift, 5th wheel hookup, and "hose out" rubberized floor don't have a comparable Toyota to even look at. The Chevrolet dealer will probably have a handful of them in stock in assorted colors. The Ford and Ram dealer will also have similar models in stock as well.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to more base models. The fact that the Platinums are similarly priced doesn't mean much to you average buyer. Whats the difference between an FX4 and SR5 similarly equiped, 7-8k?

FX4 is a package not a trim and is available on 5 different trim levels. Would you like to narrow that down?

ETA: You Tundra guys are so ill informed about the competition but just run with whatever talking points that suit you.

Just curious, if you truly believe Tundra is a great truck, and you only engage in slight criticism, why wouldn't you come into this thread that clearly was taking a shot at Tundra, and defend them, instead of insulting Tundra and it's owners, and blowing smoke up Ford?

(FYI, I have never owned a Tundra, but currently own a Tacoma, just to be clear.)

In my experience, people who actually use their pickups for work usually buy the larger models from Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, or Ram.

The Toyota Tundra has always been more of a suburban market truck. Not saying it's a bad vehicle, but that's just the way things are.

I deal in facts. The F150, without an Ecoboost, is a factually better truck. Any comparison test anywhere will back that up.

That doesn't mean the Tundra is a bad truck. I have argued against Toyota koolaide drinker hyperbole in this thread. They post fiction.

ETA: Perfect example, my first post in this thread. 100% factual, doesn't talk shite about the Tundra.

Tundra guys are having to buy new trucks less often

Or because there are a lot less Tundra guys than the other types.

More downvvotes than upvotes. Tundra people cannot hear anything negative about Toyota regardless of how factual it is. Just typical.

Terrible compared to the big 3, yes. Terrible compared to what Toyota considers success, no.
