Why are some of you so confused as to why a black person is more likely to wear a mask?

A black American is over 2.7 times as likely as a white American to have known someone who has died of covid
For much of the pandemic in Louisiana, over half of all deaths were black people despite them being 32% of population
I’m not blaming “racism” or “oppression” for that data
Much of it can be blamed on cultural and dietary habits
But wouldn’t you wear a mask if a bunch of your cousins and elderly relatives succumbed to this bug?

No, I wouldn’t. Sick people dying from the virus would not impact any of the decisions I made for myself as a healthy individual.

But why are they wearing them now?? Last spring and summer the black kids and young adults in my neighborhood got in trouble for going to the park and playing basketball - they weren’t supposed to be at the park end they weren’t wearing masks

I don't have a single problem with anyone wearing a mask, now or in the past.
I do have a problem with them trying to guilt, shame, or otherwise force me to wear a mask.

I know plenty Black people that DGAF about masks. I know White people virtue signaling like a MF with their masks. I also know several that died from covid, one being a good friend. I have rarely worn a mask.

But there seems to be an interesting juxtaposition among many black people. They continue to be more afraid, on average, than white folks for the justifiable reasons discussed in the OP. Yet, they have been very reluctant to get the vaccine equally out of fear. I'm not saying that line of thought is "right or wrong". Just that it seems to put them in a "no end" situation. "If I take off the mask the covid will get me." If I get the vaccine the covid will get me."
