Why are people so defensive about music? They can’t understand people who have different musical taste. Like, “how dare you not have the same musical taste as me and my friends?!“.

This applies to most anything. Most people get offended when people disagree about something they feel at least somewhat strongly about.

People get defensive over things to which they subscribe a part of their identity. For many people, their musical tastes are a part of their identity, so they take criticisms of their musical preferences as a personal attack.

There's this weird school of thought that says that it's somehow effeminate to listen to anything pleasant or harmonious.
People who subscribe to this school of thought attempt to show their own masculinity by listening to Norwegian Satanists grunting and groaning over really tedious electric guitar sounds.
