Why are men's watches so fricking huge these days?

Admittedly, I am about as "average" sized as it gets (5' 10.5" 190 lbs. decent build), but current watches look like I am wearing a fricking saucer on my wrist. It's impossible to find a new "luxury" men's watch with a case of less than 42mm.
I understand styles change (otherwise, we'd still all have pocket watches and hats), but changes in style are usually driven by improvements (or needs) for functionality and appearance and these goddamned hubcaps don't seem to fit that bill.
WTF?

Why are there so many threads about men today?

You're looking in the wrong places apparently. My daily wear is a Tudor Black Bay 36 (as in 36mm).
There are plenty of options smaller than 42mm, I think Rolex actually only sells a couple watches that are over 41mm.
I agree with your sentiment that big watches look silly though.

Shouldn't this be right up your alley? Why are you complaining?

None of my Rolexes are that large.

the bigger the watch the bigger the cock

You aren't searching the right place. Don't buy a 60mm watch because you'll just look like a douche to other people. Find a good forum and ask around for suggestions. You should be fine at around 36-44mm in your build.

What is your bench and 40 time?
When buying a watch the only size that matters is your wrist size. Rolex, Omega, PP, and Patek all make watches that don't look like a hockey puck.

For a luxury watch, this is it. To me, anything else is just a tool trying too hard.

I believe luxury watchmakers realized how stupid huge watches are, and are going to go back to normal white people sizes. IMHO, dress watches should be <39mm, and slim. Sport watches should be <42mm (except g-shocks)

I think that’s hideous. Every detail of that watch is bad except the finish, don’t like the color, of the dial.

Watches are for ladies anyways.
