re: Why are Louisiana people so insecure about their state?

We are as good as any other state. Probably better than California and Texas for sure.
Our citizenry is smart and well educated.
We have a very fit and diet-conscious culture.
While Texas is much better than Louisiana by almost every relevant metric, diet isn't one of them.

I think its because for all the bad aspects of Louisiana (government, roads, traffic, job opportunities) there is a ton of good that many people overlook.
One of the best places to fish in the world.
Some of the best hunting in North Louisiana.
The long standing unique culture (not cultcha), that goes back hundreds of years.
The people, most I know would give you the shirt off their back as long as you treat them with respect.
The food that is unique to Louisiana and no where else in the world.
When Louisiana is relegated to a shithole or just another Mississippi or Arkansas, of course we are going to be insecure. We are fiercely proud of the great parts about our state while, at the same time, deeply embarrassed about the bad parts.
That's my honest answer to a poor troll attempt.

Louisiana isn't perfect. But, I'd rather live here than many other states.

I'm proud to be from Louisiana and my Cajun heritage. But I'm also sad for my home state because it is so rife with corrupt and ignorant leadership that it will always be a shithole. I love my family and friends that are still there, but I will never move back to stay.
I'm leaving Houston bright and early Friday morning for a weekend in Baton Rouge visiting family and friends. I'll love every minute of it.
And I'll also love seeing the New Bridge in my rear view mirror Sunday morning as I head back to Texas.
It's nothing personal guys, but it's sad. Louisiana is a weird enigma of a place. Its greatest asset is the people there. They are the most loving, giving, fun loving people you'll ever meet.
Those same people are also it's biggest flaw. The culture allows, excepts, hell, even encourages cronyism, graft, political corruption, and low expectations all around.
It's the state with the most potential, and the least chance of ever reaching it.

Louisiana is a shite hole. Anybody that's been there knows this. Yet Louisiana people will knock every other state in an effort to make themselves feel better about their state.
Why people?
Yes, we needed this thread.
I have my own theory about this phenomenon. I believe it has to do with a feeling of being trapped and making the best of things. If one admits to the condition and discusses it openly then one must also come to terms with it, and that is often pretty depressing and calls for one to make plans to egress, or find as safe a little corner of the state to live in and try to avoid dealing with the realities on a day to day basis.

Or maybe it would lead to positive change?

Perhaps it would, but refusing to discuss it and instead living in a state of delusion will NEVER change a damn thing.

This sums it up imo. This state is held back by the good ol' boy system and poor education. No wonder you guys drink so much

Look, I could take this thread from most people, but for someone from Arkansas saying Louisiana people are insinuating that they are below Arkansans and trying to knock off the Gem State from their high horse is ridiculous

Moved to Austin years ago and never looked back. I lol every time I hear some trash from Louisiana say, “it’s like this everywhere”.

99% of Louisiana bashing threads are non Louisianians, and 99% of the posters in them aren’t even from here
I don’t know anyone from Louisiana that thinks we are one of the best states. But that doesn’t mean people from here won’t stand their ground when someone bashes their state, most people would.

The problem is, to many on this site, it is personal. If you move away and have the audacity to point out things wrong with Louisiana, some people get offended. Usually it's met with the "well, bye" gif, questions about why you even care, and my personal favorite: the ol' "you're insecure about moving where you did and desperately want to move back so you trash LA to hide your insecurities."
