More than $700,000 was misused with multiple administrators accused of stealing thousands for personal gain, the most recent audit of the Montgomery school district shows. Money was spent at strip clubs, casinos, liquor stores, for nonexistent vendors and on scholarships for an administrator's children when they did not qualify for the funding, according to the audit, which ran from October 2017 through September 2018.

I think more frequent audits would have a greater effect.

But that doesn’t prove additional funding isn’t the answer. It proves that there needs to be more oversight and regulations on how the money is spent.

Right. The money isn't making it into the classrooms
And that's a problem even without fraud and abuse

No. It proves that some people need to go to jail.

So, 1 school district has shitty people and that's the reason school funding isn't the answer?

It's truly sad how mismanaged our tax dollars are.
I get im an excessive statist but I think we should give the death penalty for people who steal government funds.
Like all those elected leaders of NOLA who fricked everyone over, death. Ray Nagin, death. Congressman Jefferson, death.
Maybe with a super stiff penalty instead a couple of years in a club Fed corruption could be weeded out.

The CATO report
The most comprehensive evaluation of funding and school performance.
Just look at the 1st graph and the spending increase with ZERO change in student performance.
Every government agency would look like this if you graphed it out.

So we need yet another layer of oversight and regulation to supplement the US dept of Education, the southern regional board of education, the state bese board, Louisiana dept of education, local school boards, Principals, assistant Principals...

People would know that, except they aren't educated about it.

Promising additional school funding is an excellent way to secure more votes.

That’s because the public school system has become a jobs program where it has become impossible to fire someone and every year a further layer of bureaucracy is added, further driving up costs, further burdening teachers, and not getting the money to the children directly.

You honesty think this ONLY happens at 1?

Why additional school funding isn’t the answer
As with everything, additional funding to the government in the hopes they’ll fix all our ailments is never the answer.

Then there needs to be an overhaul of the administration. More funds used correctly IS the answer.

Families, not funding, is the answer to school problems

principals and those who work for the school district office also make entirely too much money.
Why are principals being paid $125k+ when all they have is an education degree and teaching experience? That resume gets you a couple bucks more than minimum wage in any other field

Isn't that the basis for the climate change movement? Move vast sums of money into programs to combat it?

We spend more per pupil than any other country. Money isnt the problem.

Let’s not be stupid. First it’s principals. Second becoming a principal requires/usually requires an advanced degree such as a masters or PhD. Third, principals are essentially managing an entity with hundreds of thousands of dollars, potentially millions of dollars. Being a principal is much more than an elementary ed degree and 3 years of experience.
