Started in late 2001 or 2002 and transitioned to the current format that needed a valid, non-gmail account to sign-up in August 2003.
I believe I was the 10th or 11th to signup in the transition.

I was a lurker for at least several months before officially signing on, can't believe it has already been since 2004! I had switched over mostly to facebook for a few years, but now I am back on TD; facebook sucks and proud to say I never signed up for twitter...
