I’ve read all about that case. Wasn’t close to being born yet. But I don’t buy Bugliosis Hester Skelter story at all. It’s a case of Charlie trying to get his buddy out of jail (Bobby Beausolei) by creating a copy cat murder. And it also gave him the opportunity to get even with the (institution) of the music industry. Terry Melcher who wouldn’t sign him to a record deal used to live in the Tate house. So he could get revenge and free his buddy he thought. Crazy part is between all 3 murder scenes, the police didn’t see a pattern, even with the writing on the walls of all 3 locations. If that dumbass girl wouldn’t have talked to her cell mate they may have disappeared into the desert forever. Heater Skelter was just a way to put them all on trial and make it stick.

I knew a guy whose sister played one of the killer girls in the movie. She was pretty damned hot and raised in BR.

“The murder was a shocking headline, August. Nobody knew what was going on. This murders weren't the first big shock for me and I think everbody. Those were the Speck murder of the nurses in Chicago and Whitman in Texas. You can't make sense of these things. “
——————-
In addition to the nurses and U of T murders, which were in ‘66 I believe, Bobby Kennedy and M. L. King were killed in 1968. The 8 nursing students was more shocking to me but I didn’t realize how brutal the Manson Murders were until some years later.

Back then there would have been maybe a 3 minute story on the 6:00 pm news over a few days maybe. Then more stories when the suspects were caught. No 24 hour news cycle. Vietnam dominated the news cast.

The Folgers girl had a nice bush. I made the mistake of looking at the unedited crime scene photos once... or twice

Manson is one of the most charismatic people I've ever seen, at least in the footage of him. It's scary how that attraction can make some people completely let go of all decency and rationality

Read Helter Skelter, you’ll realize how fricked up Manson was...

1+. And it will scare you. The evil power Manson had over his followers was amazing, yet horrifying. I was alive during the Manson murders, but don't really remember them. OTOH, I was in high school when "Helter Skelter" came out. I read some of it when I was staying at home alone a few days while my parents were out of town. I scared me to death. I went to bed at night w/ my 22 rifle lying on the floor next to my bed.

I was alive, and there was a movie made about it in the mid 70's called Helter Skelter. there is a remake in 2004 of that movie by the same name. I saw the original back in the 70's, but have not seen the more recent one.

There is a show on Netflix now called" Echos in the Canyon". It's about the music scene in and around Laurel Canyon in the 1960's and the circles that those musicians of the time moved in. There are several mentions of Charles Manson and how he interacted with the Beach Boys, Neil Young and others. It's a pretty good documentary and I learned a few new things. For instance, Neil Young either gave or was given a motorcycle by Charlie, and he wrote and performed "Revolution Blues" about the Manson family.

Steve McQueen was on one of the lists and was almost there that night. He carried a gun most of the time after that.
