Happens all the time. There are brokers who specialize in selling bees. Bees are even sold in bulk. In addition to the value of the bees, the wooden hive hardware isn't cheap. People will steal anything that's there's a buck to be made on. Of course, the thieves have bee suits for protection, and a background in handling them.

Mexicans and Russians are known to steal them off the almonds in Cali. So much that a lot of people are just skipping Cali and shipping them down to Florida for the Oranges. It's not worth the hassle anymore. Seems like the thieves are running things now and you're lucky to get half of what you send back.
To make matters worse, the govt or what they're calling Law Enforcement doesn't give a shite because they know not to go against these guys and honestly their whole coastal states are becoming a nightmare to even get anything done.

Yep. I've read articles about very sophisticated thieves making off with truckloads of bees that were shipped in to pollinate the almonds.

That was a friend of mine, I ask where, her reply:
“They were north of Watson just across parish line in East Feliciana parish.”
At the same time I got another friend ask me:
“ Who was the person you know that had the hives stolen? I saw a truck and trailer on Gurney road yesterday loaded with bee hives. Heading towards Blackwater road. Didn’t think much about it till I saw your post.”
Got those two where they could exchange information. Hope this leads to catching the thieves!
