USAA, I hit my 40 years in November...

the one thing to keep in mind with USAA is after you are a member for a couple of years, you start getting refund checks in December for your Subscriber's Savings Account (like a corporate cash reserve since USAA isn't a stock company, but a co-op) then when you get to be a dinosaur like me, they give you an additional 10% bump in distribution every year....

False.

I totaled my truck back in 08 and had a check in my hand 7 days later. The check paid off my truck which was only 2 years old plus $3500.

I have had a good experience with them the only time I had a claim.

Anyone use progressive for home? Any good?

Their quote was the lowest for me.

Shelter. I've only had them for a month so I can't say. I had Progressive previously and had no problems with them. I only switched to Shelter when I purchased HOI as they required a companion policy to go with HOI. Shelter is a few bucks a month cheaper, but it isn't much. I'd have kept Progressive if I could. But Shelter was much cheaper for HOI.

I got a quote from them and they were about 40% higher than the company I went with. Loved them for vehicle insurance however.

State farm and every other insurer will do everything to screw you over if they can(Katrina anyone?). Besides the fly by night insurers, get the cheapest of the major carriers

State Farm was great when my parents house burned, I'll never shop around based on that alone.

Oh they are great sometimes, and cuthroat and unmoral others. Im not calling them out only, Im calling out all insurance companies. They are in the business of making money, all of them. It is just the fact that State Farm got caught by a whistleblower to be cheating out Katrina victims that i brought them up.

Safeco - I am satisfied to the extent they cash my checks - that's the only dealing I've had with them. Hopefully I won't regret it if I have to make a claim.

I became eligible for USAA just a few months ago, and was expecting to save a ton. They were $350/yr higher though.

Yes. Thats why I find some responses in these threads and cable company threads interesting. Some people fight so hard for "their company" When in reality they dont give a shite about any of us

Might want to check your facts on that. I know I'm in the minority on this one but the courts sided with the insurance companies in this case and that "whistleblower" ended up in prison.

He was referring to injuries, not property damage.
