I assume you learned the hard way.

Not to sound like a commercial, but I switched to Gieco recently ended up saving about $80 per month (for both of my cars). State Farm and USAA also provided better quotes for the same coverage, but Geico was the lowest for me.
Moral of the story is to get quotes for car insurance every couple of years and make sure that you are not getting overcharged.

Life long SF but looking to switch. My agent is getting ready to retire and advised me to shop for better rates
The real issue is to bundle homeowners and auto and most companies do not want to write new Homeowners if you are in South LA
Have one wreck and GEICO will cancel you

I've had a vandalism claim with Geico when I had them 6 years ago and never had a problem. Allstate was overcharging a lot for car insurance.
I had Allstate for homeowners but I have heard that they are a pretty terrible insurance company. I've switched to another company recently as well. Same coverage and rate except the accessory structure on my property is now covered. Allstate would not insure my workshop. Ameriprise and State Farm were the most competitive.
MetLife was the lowest for my life insurance.

This is my issue now. I had state farm for auto and home owners for many many many years. I am now being told they cant cover me in the new house im building (even tho I reduced to renters ins after selling my house in Jan and they telling me that would keep me eligible for home owners in the future)
So now im looking for homeowners ins and ill probably move my auto to get the discounts.

State Farm has gone up on their prices again and I think it may be time to price others... I've had State Farm since day 1, what are the other most reputable insurance companies to get quotes from?
You are probably not going to pay any attention to this answer, but let me give you the best advice in this thread.
Before you shop rates, you need to determine what you want.
I use GEICO. It is solely based on rates. They have the lowest rates for me and that's what I want.
With that said, I can promise you that I will be thoroughly disgusted with my decision if I ever hit and injure someone because they are the worst carrier in terms of paying claims.
Now, a couple of people in this thread think that's great. That not paying claims means they're on your side. That couldn't be further from the truth.
GEICO lowballs every single claim. It results in a high percentage of their insureds getting sued as defendants in court. Then they send the person a letter saying how they're fighting hard for them, blah blah blah. It's all bluster. They're trying to save a few bucks. And the attorney you have assigned to you is being paid by them so whose interest does that attorney really have at heart? GEICO's, not yours.
Because you're more likely to get sued, you're also more likely to end up in a trial with a judgment against you. Judgments go on your credit report. Lawsuits show up in background checks. There are ramifications to these things that they don't tell you about because they hide behind the guise of "we're fighting for you!" when they're really hanging you out to dry at the mercy of a jury.
That doesn't even account for the time you have to devote to the lawsuit in terms of talking to the attorney, being deposed, etc.
Refusing to pay claims is not a sign of an insurance company that is on your side. Refusing to pay claims is a sign that you're going to be in for a long and bumpy ride with a carrier that is worried more about their bottom line than you as their customer.
Like I said at the beginning though, I am with them solely due to the low rates. If that's all you want, they are usually tough to beat.
They are not the only ones like that either. State Farm and AllState are just as bad. If you only want low rates, feel free to go with one of them.
If you ever think you might need some actual protection and the use of your policy if you screw up on the roadway, pick somebody else.
USAA will pay a claim. Progressive will typically pay a claim. Erie isn't bad. Neither is Liberty Mutual. All of their rates are a little bit higher, but their customers get sued far less often than GEICO, AllState and State Farm customers and they end up in court far less as well.
So make that decision first. Cost v. protection.
Than pick your carrier accordingly.

We had Progressive for 10+ years. We were up for renewal about two weeks ago, so we got a few quotes. We ended up going with Geico, which saved us $1,200 a year. We were both happy with the savings and pissed that we had been overpaying by so much.

I'm curious, do some of you have different insurers for auto and home? As far as I know Geico doesn't do home owners insurance. I've been with State Farm forever with 2 vehicles and a home insured and of course get a multiline discount (as well as some other discounts) but I am not opposed to shopping around for better rates.
