I am trying to remember who started on the team.
There was obviously Kentrell Gransberry and Darnell Lazare. J'Quincy Smith (?) and Chijuan Mack were also on the team. James Collins graduated the year before and played at a small D-1 school, and there was also a guy who didn't play basketball who ended up starting at QB for Colorado State.
Woodlawn had a great run in the early 2000s.

Probably have to go with Carmen Angelini. Played baseball in high school and signed a deal with the Yankees to play minor league ball. Not sure if he ever made it to the major league roster though.
I was on the track team with Trey Harts. He won a couple of NCAA indoor championships while at Baylor.
That's probably it.

I was on campus with both of them. I WENT TO HS WITH BOTH OF THEM.
I was a 6' freshman when Danielle was a senior and I had a locker next to her. She was taller than me and nice as hell.
I gave Durbin a ride to school his freshman year ONCE b/c his mom saw me and another sr buddy smokin a joint in the front seat.
It counts. Suck Ma Balls
Ask Almond what team was better. /discussion.
ETA I was at that missed free throw game to lose the state championship in 93.

Their older sister used to run with us a bit.
She was by no means a saint either. Neither was their mom. The kids never had a chance in that household. I grew up around the corner from them. John and I were tight through elementary and junior high. We got in a lot of trouble (shocker.) Luckily, we began to go our separate ways. My life could have very easily gone the way of theirs.

This all happened in 1995. Calendar's was a restaurant at the corner of Essen and Perkins. The place across from the Albertson's that has been a ton of different restaurants since (some people say the location is cursed since the shooting). A guy who had worked in the kitchen as a dishwasher, showed up around closing time to rob the place. Went in the back and slaughtered the staff. This was a pretty brutal crime in a time when Baton Rouge didn't have the level of violent crime we have now. It made big time news for the outright cold blooded way he did it. He shot one worker to death first, then shot the manager in the head, shot another worker in the back (who survived the wound) and then held the gun to the fourth worker and pulled the trigger but the gun had jammed. He then ran off. The survivors obviously knew him and he was arrested shortly after.
I remember it clearly because a friend was working at the DA's office and had a tape of the 911 call from the manager. She was on the phone when he started shooting and you can clearly hear her begging for her life and her last breaths after he shoots her in the head. It was really horrible and I only listened to it once.
Damn thats insane!
I remember hearing that story from my dad when I was just a lad.
Were the motives ever released? Why did he kill his coworkers?
Edit:

Cenac testified Wessinger gave him this account: He drank malt liquor all day on Nov. 18, 1995, the day before the killings, then went out with friends to sell cocaine. He drank all night until passing out about 3 a.m., then awoke about 8 a.m. and drank more beer. Like it would on many chronic drinkers, Cenac said, the sedative effects of the beer had worn off, but the alcohol left Wessinger in an irritated state that made him impulsive and dangerous.
Cenac said Wessinger told him he rode a bike to Calendar’s, intending to collect $80 from an employee who owed him money for drugs. Wessinger met the employee outside the Perkins Road eatery but went inside when the worker did not come outside with the money. Wessinger admitted he shot Guzzardo and Breakwell, then left. Rostow testified Wessinger, whose IQ is 90, is immature, dependent and sometimes explosive. Wessinger is not the type of person who kills for pleasure, as some do, but for the money he stole. Prosecutors said he took $7,000 during the robbery. Hudsmith and Gibbens contend the testimony of Cenac and Rostow “was not only not helpful, but quite harmful, to the point that the prosecutor was able to exploit it to the state’s advantage at the penalty phase hearing.”
Stephanie Guzzardo was making a 911 call when she was shot. She pleaded for her life and promised not to tell on her killer before the sound of a gunshot cut her short. The jury listened to the heart-wrenching recording, and the state’s attorneys are urging Brady to do the same.
Horrible. Inexcusable that this monster is still on death row.
Should have been executed within a week of being captured.
