That’s no reason to talk him out of what he wants. He said he was passively looking and taking his time, just pointing out that used trucks don’t last.

Get you a Denali and replace the front chrome tow hooks that you’ll never use with red ones. Replace front grill and badging.

The used truck market has been crazy for 10 years. I don’t understand it.

You bought it used or new? 2016 with only 31K miles?

I want same package but with a full size bed.

Here is a thought. With all the issues with Ecoboosts going ecoboom and all the failures with the new 10 speed trannys, many owners are probably trading in their existing vehicles with major issues and instead of dealers repairing them they are salvaging them because the repairs exceed the cost of the vehicle.

Same thing with most vehicles involved in accidents. Instead of repairing them, most body shops are on the same level as doctors in trying to price body work as high as a giraffe’s head and the insurance companies give up and pay for the vehicle instead of repairing it.

All of those issues are leading to a shortage in the used market. Plus you have some that are stuck in underwater loans that sometimes trucks are the only option to finance with high values and high rebates to swallow high payoffs.

I am really just considering waiting longer and buying new.

60k for used with 80k+ miles
80k new

It's something to consider. I have a 2020 ram 1500 that is paid off. I don't need the 3/4 ton yet, I'm thinking ahead to when I do and seeing if any deals hit.

Unless you are already shopping at a dealership in a large city, try that. When I was shopping for a Rav4, I had the same problem. I got lucky, and got one thru my local dealer, but they had to swap a Rav4 I didn't want for one somewhere else.

I had started looking and found that Houston had lots of every vehicle Toyota makes. They already have 2026 models of some vehicles. If my local dealership hadn't called me with access to the car I wanted, I was going to drive to Houston.

Less about that specific truck, and more about who is buying all of the trucks and how can afford them?

I make a good living but I can't stomach buying a 70k truck to save my life.

I think this time of year is rough.

All the contractor types sell their truck after a year and get a new one. And often they get higher trims, because they can write the entire thing off.

The vehicles are also selling well and there’s not much incentive to play ball.

I would agree though that no matter what seems to happen with the economy, inflation, etc. that the toy buying never seems to stop

People should buy what’s practical not what ‘looks cool’. I’m willing to bet OP will never need half of that truck. But it makes him look cool, meanwhile setting his family back years.

I’m worth well over $2 million at 48 and yes, the truck you mentions ‘looks cool’ but I didn’t get here being an idiot. I could not stomach spending that much on a depreciating asset. I spent $17k on a used base model Tundra 8 years ago and still driving it. No issues. IYKYK.

Just how special do you think you are? Obviously YOU are buying the truck.

You're a dip shite but I will entertain it.

I work to live, not live to work. Don't assume I'm going to impact any of my families finances by purchasing a truck that a want. Also don't assume that I won't utilize the truck. I have land, will be purchasing a tractor and RV in the next year.

Could I get by with a base model 3/4 ton? Sure? Do I want to? Nah.

You could probably make due with an ugly wife but I promise no dude is gonna settle for that.

I didn’t interpret his post as a complaint. Just an observation about the truck market.
I also didn’t see the post as a complaint about market prices. More of an observation about availability and inventory turns.

OP, I agree with you. Dealers’ inventory is lacking. Wish you could go to a stealership and see multiple models. But I think those days are gone forever as it’s easier to floor plan fewer vehicles now.

So the OP shouldn’t buy a truck because he won’t need half of it yet you brag about owning a truck in the same post.

You have no idea what what’s practical for the OP.

Your life must be absolutely miserable to have to put on this facade for the OT.
