That’s a really depressing thought. And that’s not Louisiana-centric. Just the thought of never venturing outside of your home state is sad.

You realize really quick how big this country is on a road trip from El Paso to Orange.

There’s a ton of people who ONLY will go to Houston on very rare occasion and Destin a few times a year. That’s their entire traveling for their whole life. Going to BR is a big big deal to them.

Haha that sign that says how many miles to El Paso right outside Orange is the most Texas thing ever. I wish there was a sign right outside Shreveport that said how many miles to New Orleans

I bet.

The beauty of the northeast is that within a 2 hour drive I can be in 5 different states.

I've left the state, but really didn't travel outside of the southeast until my mid-20s.

I would be very surprised if there is one person on this board who has never been out of Louisiana.

I remember after Katrina they interviewed some black people in New Orleans who had never been up on the interstate.

I lived in southern AZ for a time and we took a group of high school kids to Tucson for an event and one of the kids had never even been to Tucson. 90 minutes from his hometown of Douglas. I was stunned.

If you mean live, most people I know from my hometown have never lived outside the state. Most haven't even lived outside of that town.

If you mean travel, I'm not sure I know anyone that hasn't at least left the state for a day.

Yeah, I am sure if you go any random public HS in Louisiana and ask all the seniors how many people have been out of La, it would be surprising to see the number of them who have not.

An old boss of mine, use to be the shop teacher at Baker HS for several years and every year he would take his class to some woodwork thing in New Orleans, every year.. And that would be the furthest most of his students have been away from home. He told me one time, they were coming back through Donaldsonville and when they were crossing the Sunshine Bridge, one of his students asked him "What river is that?"..

This is sad. There are so many beautiful National Parks in this country to see!

Interesting, but I don't think it is THAT weird. For example, I'm born and raised in Nola area and have never been to Alexandria. Never had a need or want to.

Plenty of people in New Orleans who have never left the city or dined in a restaurant.

I've never even left my cell, in solitary confinement, at Angola. Its close to Mississippi, though. So I've seen another state.

My SO was born and raised in Nola, went to school and worked for a time in NY, and traveled extensively in Europe, but has never set foot in the state of Texas.

The only excursion of my life outside of New Orleans took me through the vortex to the whirlpool of despair: Baton Rouge. . . . New Orleans is, on the other hand, a comfortable metropolis which has a certain apathy and stagnation which I find inoffensive.Leaving New Orleans also frightened me considerably. Outside of the city limits the heart of darkness, the true wasteland begins.
